Automotive Technician IIDepartment: Central GarageRequires successful post-offer completion of a background investigation, physical exam, and FTA drug test (including marijuana/THC ) as a condition of employment with the City of Joplin.Primary PurposeProvides technical inspection and diagnosis of City vehicles and equipment; affects proper repair of City vehicles and equipment; troubleshoots and diagnoses more complex repair issues including complex systems and computer-based problems.Minimum QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Air Brake Safety and Refrigerant (R-134a) training is preferred.Experience: Four years of journey-level automotive or diesel repair experience is required.Licenses and Certifications: Possess and maintain a Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with the appropriate endorsements within 6 months of appointment; and ASE certifications.ScheduleFull-time, 6:30 AM - 3 PM, Monday through Friday.Salary and BenefitsStarting at $21.22 - $27.69 per hour, depending on experience.We provide free health insurance to the employee, and a great family rate (that does not increase per additional member) with a low deductible, low co-pays, and free preventive care services.Additional Benefits include:

Essential Job Functions

Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs a variety of equipment such as power mowers, small power equipment, tractors, automobiles, and trucks.

Performs a wide variety of vehicle maintenance activities; diagnoses and repairs braking, electrical, air conditioning, and cooling systems.

Services and tunes engines, overhauls and rebuilds transmissions, rear-end assemblies, carburetors, fuel injectors, fuel and water pumps, hydraulic systems, and entire engines.

Performs routine repairs on heavy machinery, heavy duty trucks, back hoes, diesel tractors, and mowing equipment.

Troubleshoots/diagnoses and repairs electrical systems, electronic ignition systems, hydraulic hoses and systems, cooling systems, brake systems for specialized and complex heavy machinery, heavy-duty trucks, automotive, reads and interprets computer-based repair manuals.
