This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DOD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is with the ILSC, Field Support Operations Fleet Management Expansion in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Responsibilities Serves as a working leader of three or more employees in accomplishing trades and labor work. Ensures needed plans, material and tools are available and that needed stock is obtained. Checks work while in progress and when completed to ensure adherence to supervisor's instructions, procedures, methods, and assure deadlines are met. Performs organizational maintenance and repair on heavy duty mobile equipment and vehicles. Performs operational inspection and ensures vehicles and equipment are properly serviced. Utilizes computers in the performance of their duties and personnel matters such as training, labor accounting, leave requests, employee benefits, counseling, and evaluations, as well as for equipment testing and technical manuals. Operates a tractor trailer to transport heavy mobile equipment to direct support with responsibility for assuring proper loading and unloading of equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer Leader without more than normal supervision. - which includes the ability to: 1) Ensure duties are performed using proper safety practices and equipment; (2) Perform Field Level Maintenance and repairs on heavy duty mobile equipment and vehicles such as road graders, conveyors, bulldozers, power shovels, heavy duty compressors, large generators, tractors, large trucks, tanks, tracked combat vehicles, cranes and accessory equipment and; (3) Utilize computers and/or automated systems to perform core functions of job such as training, labor accounting, leave requests, employee benefits, counseling and evaluations, as well as for equipment testing and technical manuals. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort May be required to work in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work frequently requires climbing on top of equipment or crawling under equipment to work on the various components. Incumbent will frequently have to bend, reach, stretch, and crouch. Work is strenuous, often requiring the lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds. Incumbent will also push, pull, and turn heavy parts and equipment. Moves heavier items with assistance of other workers. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside. The incumbent is exposed to drafts, dirt, grease and vehicle fumes. Incumbent is exposed to some inclement weather such as rain, heat, snow, cold, and freezing temperatures; and may be required to work in muddy and wet or icy areas when outdoors. Subject to burns, scrapes, cuts, bruises, shocks and strain. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
