JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: This position is responsible for the daily operation and safety of the Surf Simulator at Blue Surf Bay Waterpark. This position will provide an excellent level of customer service and instruction – providing a fun and safe experience for Surf Simulator participants. Instructors should do everything possible to maintain an accident-free environment, by watching for potential problems proactively. You must be 16 years or older for this position.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision of all facility areas. Enforces facility policies and procedures.

Communicating with other facility staff about the need for additional assistance or equipment in an emergency.

Enforcing rules and regulations of the facility and educating and informing patrons of the rules and regulations of the pool as necessary.

Ideal candidates must be able to instruct various skill levels from beginners to experts in Stand-up-Surfing Knee-Boarding and Body-Boarding

Complete accurate reports related to sessions and submit them to management in a timely manner.

Provide a safe, clean and organized environment for patrons.

Attend regular meetings and training sessions.

In case of an emergency, notify the appropriate agency as dictated by the emergency.

Communicate effectively with patrons, supervisors, and co-workers.

Set session expectations before the start of lessons and enforce those expectations.

Follows protocols for opening and closing of the facility. Report unusual situations to supervisors.

Perform other related duties as requested or assigned by the Manager of Aquatics or Recreation Programmer -Aquatics.

The above duties and responsibilities include those tasks, physical and mental requirements, visual requirements, unique physical surroundings and mental/cognitive abilities required to perform the essential elements of the position.GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Special License(s)/Certifications – Must be 15 years of age or older. All candidates must possess the certifications below, or have the ability to obtain them before beginning employment. If not already obtained certification will be provided at no cost to employees once hired.

a) Successful completion of StarGuard Lifeguard Certification and other related training as necessary.b) Successful completion of Surf-Air training.c) CPR and First Aid certifications.d) Successful completion of a pre-employment in-water practical skills test.

Experience – Prior experience in the area of surf instruction is preferred, but not required as training will be provided if hired.

Skills – Skill in effective verbal and written communication; skill in the effective administration of City and Department policies and procedures. Maintain positive relationships with members and patrons.

Mental Requirements – Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment. Communicate effectively with patrons. Ability to respond and act in an emergency situation.

Physical Requirements – Must be able to stand for prolonged periods; must be able to walk frequently; must be able to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, and use general office equipment. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Basic swimming ability including treading water for a period of time is required. Most work is performed in various aquatic and recreational settings where noise levels are frequently moderate to loud.

Supervisory Responsibility – No direct supervisory responsibilities assigned to this position
