The City of Billings is seeking a Laboratory Technician for a Water Reclamation Facility. Will perform a variety of technical duties involved in performing standard field and laboratory chemical, physical, and microbiological procedures on water and wastewater samples including sample collection, preparation, analysis and data reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Performs a variety of duties involved in the collection, transportation, preparation, and preservation of water and wastewater for routine and special analysis.

- Performs a variety of routine chemical, physical, and microbiological tests and analyses on water and wastewater samples to meet governmental and processes control requirements; prepares solutions, reagents and standards for various chemical analysis.

- Prepares, calibrates, standardizes and operates a variety of laboratory, sampling and operations equipment and instruments which would normally be found in a wastewater plant laboratory.

- Observes potential problems and reports them to the proper personnel.

- Calculates and records laboratory test results; assembles data and maintains equipment records, and files.

- Maintains, cleans, and cares for laboratory facility, equipment and material; performs minor servicing and maintenance work on laboratory and process control equipment.

- Participates in the Division's in-service training and safety programs.

- Assists in maintaining laboratory supplies and inventory; orders supplies as directed.

- Uses laboratory chemicals in a safe manner.

- Performs work in accordance with safety regulations and guidelines.

- Observes activity in and around the buildings and grounds for security and safety issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Associate's degree with major course work in chemistry, biology, microbiology, or a related field.

- Minimum of one (1) year of related work experience in treatment plants or laboratories.

- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and a Federal and State criminal background check.

- Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. to include rotating holiday work and overtime as needed.

Salary: $20.0511 - $26.8782 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 7 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring is dependent upon the applicant's training and experience.
