Yellowstone County is seeking a Deputy Public Works Director to advise and assist the Director in the management and administration of the Public Works Department; does related work as required. In the absence of the Director, the Deputy Director assumes the Director's responsibilities.
Examples of Duties:
- Assists in the planning, direction and supervision of the operations and activities of the County Public Works Department, Road and Bridge, Junk Vehicle / Code Enforcement, county parks/floodplain, and Weed divisions.
- Supervisory duties may include assisting with recruitment and selection of staff, establishing and communicating division goals and performance expectations, monitoring, and evaluating performance, training, motivation and employee relations, corrective action, labor relations and other associated activities.
- Promotes safe work practices.
- Gathers and analyzes information; conducts research into operations and procedures
- Recommends operating procedures, policies and improvements and prepares reports;
- Assist in the review of private contract projects and subdivision plans for conformance with County policies, standards and accepted engineering practices
- Meets with architects, engineers, and developers to provide preliminary review of development concept and design;
- Acts as the Park Administrator and administers and reviews park matters.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from college or university of recognized standing with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Planning, or Civil Engineering; AND
- Four (4) years' of progressively responsible experience in road maintenance construction, subdivision / park planning and floodplain management including two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred; OR
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training totaling nine (9) years.
- Valid Driver's License issued by the State of Montana.
