Library Assistant The University of Southern Mississippi is currently accepting applications for the position of Library Assistant.Position Details Location Gulf Coast Research Laboratory 703 East Beach DriveOcean Springs, Mississippi, 39564United States Division GCRL Gunter Library Position Type Staff Employment Status Part Time Grant Funded No Salary Range 11.00 - 11.00 Posting Close Date 5 days after posted Job Summary This is a part-time, temporary (less than 20 hours a week) position. Activities include general library duties. Hours may include weekends and evenings during the Summer Field Program. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Adheres to University and department policies, procedures, and regulations.

Uses integrated library system and other tools for circulation, count use, campus intra-library service. Uses library databases including reprints and staff publications. Provides general orientation to new users and maintains library usage statistics log. Helps staff, faculty, students, and the public in use of the photocopiers, computers, printers, and other library equipment; checks status of paper, toner, and other supplies; refills equipment as necessary; reports on equipment condition and supplies as needed.

Assists with collection maintenance including shelving, shifting, shelf reading, and inventories; removes and returns books, journals, and other library materials to assigned shelf locations; identifies materials in need of repair or cleaning. Sort, organize, digitize, and preserve materials related to the history of the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. Resolve routine problems, identify, and refer complex problems to supervisor.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Keyboarding Skills

Familiarity with Microsoft, computer, and library software applications.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with library users.

Able to prioritize competing responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications A ssociate degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
