Utility Crew Lead The University of Southern Mississippi is currently accepting applications for the position of Utility Crew Lead.Position Details Location Hattiesburg 118 College DriveHattiesburg, Mississippi, 39406-0001United States Division Residence Life Position Type Staff Employment Status Full Time Grant Funded No Salary Range 12.31 - 16.08 Pay Grade N03 Posting Close Date Open Until Filled Special Instructions to ApplicantsPlease include resume with application.Job Summary Supervises and participates in various unskilled and semi-skilled duties of a routine maintenance nature to include moving office furniture and equipment and assist in property control.Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Supervises and participates in loading and unloading furniture, supplies, and equipment; moves departmental materials, schedules moves with departments. Plans and schedules work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning, space, and facilities.

Supervises the loading and unloading of materials and equipment, ensures delivery at designated locations utilizing a variety of equipment as required.

Maintains equipment assigned to crew in a safe operating condition and maintains departmental property in TMA system. Oversees and participates in the input of information in the inventory, property, and vehicle management databases (Asset Works). Updates changes in property databases and performs annual inventory audits for State compliance.

Inspects work to ensure compliance with work requests.

Maintains records and prepares reports reflecting work operations, personnel data, and problem areas and supervises inventory.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in a timely, fair, and objective manner, and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year of Furniture and Appliances Delivery and Inventory Management or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; Commercial Class D Driver's License.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of University policies and procedures, professional standards and regulations.

Knowledge of transporting property techniques and procedures, and the use of transporting materials, tools, and equipment.

Knowledge of asset inventory policies and procedures.

Skill in managing one’s own time and the time of others while monitoring/assessing the performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.

Utilize dolly, pallet jack, baler, forklift, and University vehicle. Also use of standard hand tools such as hammers, pliers, and screwdrivers.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and the ability to react and respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

Ability to listen to, understand, and follow instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.

Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.

Basic knowledge and skill of maneuvering within a Microsoft Windows environment and within software applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Basic knowledge and skill on Internet browsers such as Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer. Basic knowledge and skill of using email.

Ability to obtain a driver’s license prior to employment.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
