The State of Minnesota is committed to equity and inclusion, and invests in employees by providing benefits, support resources, and training and development opportunities.This posting is intended to fill multiple vacancies.This position exists to promote public roadway safety by the administration of prescribed vision screening, knowledge, oral, road and skills tests for motor vehicle operators so that only qualified individuals obtain a Minnesota driver's license. This position is also responsible for inspecting motor vehicle dealership facilities and records to ensure compliance with state dealer laws, and to inspect motor vehicles for identification and titling purposes.Minimum Qualifications

Oral, written, and customer service communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate complex information to a wide variety of audiences and meet expectations and requirements of staff and customers

Customer service and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a variety of individuals, groups, and issues

Cashiering and math skill to perform basic math to collect, count, reconcile and complete daily transactions

Experience providing customer service in a high volume, stressful environment

Typing-Keyboarding skills sufficient to enter data accurately into a computer

Must have and maintain an unrestricted driver’s license

Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather

Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of driving and motor vehicle laws

Ability to negotiate, resolve issues, read situations and settle disputes for in person interactions

Face-to-face customer service experience in a business with high volume customer traffic within the last five (5) years

Ability to problem solve, prioritize and manage a wide variety of duties while working independently

Knowledge of a written and spoken second language (e.g., Spanish, Hmong or Somali) and English sufficient to translate messages from one language to the other, while maintaining message content, context and style

Physical RequirementsEmployee must be able to communicate effectively with others and understand information clearly and have a minimum visual acuity of 20/40, corrected or uncorrected, and a visual field greater than or equal to 105 degrees. Average to above average reflexes are required. Must be able to maintain a stationary position for long periods of time. Must be able to position self and move many times per day into and out of all sizes of motor vehicles. Must be able to transport 25 pounds. Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor and handle the stress associated with continuous public contact.Additional RequirementsIt is the policy of the Department of Public Safety that all employees submit to a background investigation prior to employment, includes the following components:
