The State of Minnesota is committed to equity and inclusion, and invests in employees by providing benefits, support resources, and training and development opportunities.The Rural Health Student Worker will support a variety of projects in the Office of Rural Health and Primary Care section of the Health Policy Division. This position will assist on projects related to quantifying the impact of rural health care for rural economies by conducting environmental scans and qualitative research and data analysis. This role will also be responsible to disseminate findings through the use of infographics, dashboards or other communications tools to assist in promoting research and data.Planned projects include:
Behavioral health services and models of care delivery in rural Minnesota
Grow-your-own programming supported by schools to develop the rural health care workforce pipeline
Value-based budgeting programs
This position is eligible for telework to applicants who reside in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota. Telework eligibility is based on the business needs of the unit and is at supervisor discretion. Position location will be determined by the top candidate and based out of the closest MDH office location.Occasional commuting to the St. Paul office location for in-person meetings may be required. Reimbursement for authorized travel expenses is provided according to bargaining unit guidelines.The successful candidate, under U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations, must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins. The agency is unable to offer H-1B sponsorship.Minimum QualificationsCurrently enrolled in a graduate program, or completion of at least two years of postsecondary education, in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, natural or social sciences, public administration, or related field.Knowledge of data analysis software programs sufficient to perform data collection and create summary reports.Qualifications that will be assessed during the interview process:
Knowledge of public health research methods
Communication skills sufficient to communicate clearly with division leadership and staff.
Human relations skills to achieve effective working relationships within the agency and externally.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with qualitative and quantitative research, coding, and analysis.
Experience with Minnesota hospital and health care systems.
Enrollment in a graduate program in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, natural or social sciences, public administration, or related field.
