Here, you will make an impact by:

Effectively operating as a critical member of a m ultidisciplinary technology development team

Developing flame forming processes including first-principles modeling and experimentation

Identifying and developing new process technologies and driving their implementation to impact 3M

Effectively documenting, communicating, and disseminating research results to team members, business partners, and technology stakeholders

Driving successful technology scale-up from laboratory to manufacturing and assisting with troubleshooting process and product quality issues

Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

PhD degree in an engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or related discipline from an accredited institution

Experience with first-principles modeling of combustion including reaction kinetics, heat transfer, mass transfer, and momentum transfer

Demonstrated experience with modeling software including writing/modifying source code

Experience with OpenFOAM software and optimization tools

Experience with design software and statistically designed experiments

Experience using combustion-related analytical equipment and interpreting/communicating results

Inquisitive, able to work well with others as part of new process technology/product development, comfortable working in a highly technical environment
