OverviewM Health Fairview is looking for a Nursing Assistant at Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN! This position is casual per two weeks on the Day/Evening shift for 8 hour shifts. This job would have a weekend rotation as needed. This role is not eligible for benefits.Fairview Southdale Hospital offers care to people living and working in the southwest Twin Cities metro area. Candidates with experience may be brought in at a higher rate of pay.About this Unit:Do you have a special curiosity about surgery? Then the Pre and Post Op Care Unit may be right for you! This challenging unit is split into multiple sections, housing both inpatient and outpatient rooms. Nursing Assistants on this unit are usually a patient's first contact with the department. Pre and Post Op Care NAs will assist in all areas of the unit with patient ADLs, obtaining weight and vital signs from patients, and assisting with set up, cleaning, and stocking rooms.This position has varying start times, as listed below:

5:30am-1pm (Pre Op Start Time)

8am-4:30am (SDS)

9:30am-5pm (SDS)

10am-6:30pm (Main)

2-10:30pm (Main)

Responsibilities Job DescriptionJob ResponsibilitiesThe Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and the reordering and stocking of supplies. The Nursing Assistant does not work autonomously but works under the direction of a professional nurse. The Nursing Assistant may be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager/charge nurse.Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include:

Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, Feeding,

Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams,

Oral hygiene,

Specimen collection/testing,

Position/ambulating,

Changing linens,

Promptly answers call lights.

Assists the nurse in monitoring patient condition.

Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation.

Places patient on/off monitors or equipment.

Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.

Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients.

Orients patient and their family to the environment.

Assures the patient’s belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge.

Transports patients, equipment, specimen and supplies.

Assures patients get to appointments on time.

Uses transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation.

Cleans sets up, and maintains rooms and equipment.

Orders and stocks supplies.

Accurately documents tasks performed on appropriate form.Performs other tasks as needed.QualificationsRequired QualificationsLicense/Certification/Registration

Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

AND ONE or more of the following:

Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.

Or

Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)

Or

Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.

Or

Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position.
