Come join us on our journey to create solutions for a sustainable future!Mechanical Reliability Engineer Wyandotte, MI (onsite)We are looking for a Mechanical Reliability Engineer to join our Dispersions & Resins (ED) team in Wyandotte, Michigan.Come create chemistry with us!As a Mechanical Reliability Engineer, you will support the Wyandotte Dispersions & Resins Plant by utilizing your experience and knowledge of reliability techniques and systems to drive long-term, cost minimizing and sustainable solutions for reliable operation of plant assets. Previous experience directly supporting operating plants with a focus on safety, equipment condition evaluation and a “right sized” preventative and predictive maintenance strategy will be key to success in this role. Experience with classes of fixed & rotating equipment such as vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, and agitators will be required. Experience with instrumentation, control valves and controls equipment would certainly be an important plus. A safety driven, continuous improvement, strategic, collaborative, data-driven and cost-conscious mindset is critical for this role. This role will work hand in hand with the operations, engineering, maintenance and asset management personnel to improve plant reliability. Through assessment of plant performance and maintenance data, the Mechanical Reliability Engineer will develop and update preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to improve asset availability and minimize overall maintenance costs. Tools such as root cause failure analysis (RCFA), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), “Bad Actor” evaluations, risk-based inspection (RBI), reliability centered maintenance (RCM), lifespan/ probability of failure tools (i.e.,MTBF/MTTF, Weibull, Crow-AMSAA), predictive modeling tools and asset effectiveness data will be used to provide the information driving a long-term reliability plan. This role will also work closely with site pressure vessel engineers, metallurgists, rotating equipment engineers, IEC Engineers, acrylics technology and operations teams to develop long term improvements to asset integrity, reliability and fixed cost.About Dispersions, Resins and AdditivesBASF is a leading global supplier of high-quality polymer emulsions, acrylic binders, resins, additives, and colorants. For further information about the Dispersions & Resins business in North America, please visit http://www.basf.us/dpsolutions.As the Mechanical Reliability Engineer, you create chemistry by
Actively reviewing predictive and preventative maintenance data and making recommendations regarding equipment inspection plans, frequency, corrective maintenance or capital improvements.
Leading monthly reliability review meetings with the operations, maintenance and asset management teams and supporting the asset management team in proper selection and storage of spare parts for critical equipment.
Leading reliability-based root cause analysis investigations for the area and maintaining the unit’s Reliability Incident and Project Tracker and action item database.
Working with site pressure vessel, rotating equipment and IEC engineers to review and revise Risk Based Inspection assessments, and making recommendations on inspection scope, intervals, repairs or capital investment as needed.
Revising the “Bad Actor” list, considering production loss, maintenance costs and related production/process cost in the assessment, and prioritizing and leading the most impactful Bad Actor reliably improvement projects.
Developing a new Autonomous Maintenance (AM) plan to establish new AM activities such as Clean, Inspect & Lubricate (CILs) and When-Down-Do lists. This will include working closely with Operations resources to review and create lubrication routes and setup of a new lubrication bay.
Leading and driving Preventative Maintenance Plan Optimization efforts within the assigned unit and driving improvements to equipment preventative and predictive maintenance plans by utilizing PM effectiveness data.
Leading and/or participating in FMEAs for critical equipment as necessary and applying changes to equipment strategy documentation as a result of FMEA reviews as needed.
Participating in capital project scope development and designing reviews related to reliability, modifications or improvements as necessary, advising project managers on appropriate changes on preventative maintenance and sparing strategies as needed and acting as a project manufacturing representative as appropriate.
Supporting scope development and execution of turnaround work as needed.
Communicating with the unit’s asset owner to make updates to the long-term capital and major maintenance strategies and associated cost plans as needed.
Supporting the maintenance teams in scope development for reliability related equipment modifications and issue management of change form for approval when necessary.
Working with Maintenance personnel to optimize planned maintenance activities, including further digitalization of PMs, that will simultaneously improve both records retention and “wrench time”.
What we look for in you…
Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred). CMRP, CRE and/or Six Sigma certifications preferred but not required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in equipment reliability within a manufacturing environment.
Experience in asset integrity and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) with Investigation facilitation using the Apollo RCFA tools.
Solid understanding of equipment criticality evaluation, equipment strategies and maintenance practices.
Knowledge of fixed and rotating equipment, along with applicable codes (API, ASME) highly desired.
Experience with Bad Actor Management, FMEA, Risked Based Inspections (RBI), and Reliability Roadmaps.
SAP experience preferred.
Exhibit a strategic mindset, excellent organizational, communication and analytical skills.
