Job DescriptionThis position serves to jointly run the deer management program along with the deer, elk, and moose management specialist. Along with the deer, elk, and moose specialist, this position serves as the content expert including extensive data analysis, staff assistance, public presentations, and responding to deer specific inquiries from the public. This position will assist with development of communication materials, work along with staff to administer deer specific grant programs, assist with disease surveillance both in the field and in a laboratory setting, and participate in policy and regulatory development for deer management in Michigan. This position is required to stay current on deer management data and research, participate in the Midwest Deer Study Group, and prepare materials to effectively communicate with the public, Natural Resources Commission, and legislators, as needed. This position will utilize the Wildlife Division strategic plan document "Guiding Principles and Strategies (GPS)" for setting strategic direction in planning efforts and in setting work priorities. Required Education and ExperienceEducationPossession of a bachelor's degree in natural resource science or biological science with at least 8 semester (12 term) credits in wildlife biology and 16 semester (24 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: botany, ecology, ecosystem management, entomology, natural resources GIS applications, mammalogy, ornithology, wildlife management, zoology, conservation biology, human dimensions of fish and wildlife management, evolutionary biology, forest resources, environmental science, or natural resources law and policy.ExperienceThree years of professional experience carrying out wildlife biologist assignments equivalent to a Wildlife Biologist, including one year equivalent to a Wildlife Biologist P11 or a Research Biologist P11 with wildlife emphasis.Additional Requirements and InformationPlease attach a cover letter, resume, three professional references and official college transcripts to your application.
