The Mackinac County Road Commission has an immediate opening for an experienced Highway Construction/Maintenance Foreman to join their team in Hessel, Michigan.
This position requires someone who enjoys being out in the field. While there will be deskwork involved, this is a working position that is on-the-go and active. The ideal candidate has experience with public works and/or transportation and managing large projects that include planning, coordinating, and supervising construction and maintenance of the County highway system and bridges.

WHAT YOU WILL DO.
Oversee road and bridge construction projects, staffing, and highway equipment.
Develop work schedules for construction projects and staffing.
Supervise maintenance staff including hiring, training, performance evaluation, addressing employee issues as needed, timecard review, and expense approval.
Provide budget recommendations; assists with planning and implementing road maintenance, equipment and construction budgets.
Conduct studies and recommend new methods for improved maintenance and construction projects.
Inventory control and purchasing of maintenance material.
Meet/coordinate road construction and maintenance activities with project partners, commission staff, local officials, contractors, and other public agencies in the area.
Represent the Road Commission to the public, speak with various community groups, and attend meetings, as needed.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
Experience in road construction, maintenance and related equipment, civil engineering practices related to road construction/maintenance, and/or transportation preferred; a background in MDOT or road commission work, a bonus.
Valid driver’s license and Class A CDL required.
Supervisory and project management/construction engineering background highly preferred. This position manages other individuals.
Must be detail oriented and analytical to investigate, evaluate, and inspect county road projects.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage teams by maintaining and promoting a positive attitude and work environment.
Ability to work under time constraints to ensure deadlines are met.
Basic computer skills with ability to use general office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to travel throughout Mackinac County to worksites/meetings, as needed, in a company-provided vehicle.
