Job Title: Product EngineerJob DescriptionThe Product Engineer will be responsible for using Lean Manufacturing concepts to launch new products to customers with a focus on teamwork, accuracy, and speed to market. The role will involve working within injection molding, LED lighting, and wire harness products. The engineer will support design work in SolidWorks and assist with all phases of new product development. Strong technical and organizational skills are essential as the engineer will be involved in every aspect of New Product Development.Responsibilities
Coordinate the project launch of manufacturing processes for products (new or engineering change), from costing to prototypes to customer launch and early phases of mass production.
Provide engineering support for both new product development activities as well as factory support of existing products.
Translate product requirements into a mechanical specification and test plan to be used for development.
Conduct design analysis and testing to prove the design will meet customer requirements.
Review customer parts/assembly prints for manufacturing feasibility and potential cost savings.
Compile material and labor costing models for sales staff that are complete and accurate.
Prepare request for quote packages (RFQ) for new projects to send out to suppliers of raw materials, components, and tooling.
Coordinate building of customer prototypes and first piece samples, ensuring all customer specifications and timelines are met.
Create 2D & 3D drawings and designs for prototypes, production assemblies, and sales brochures.
Assist with the design and processing of 3D printed prototypes and custom production fixtures using SLA and FDM processes.
Assist with Bill of Materials, Routings, and Engineering Change documentation.
Specify, build, and program electrical functional test equipment for production testing.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing).
Proficient in SolidWorks with experience in modeling 3D parts and assemblies.
Experience developing and managing Lean Manufacturing projects.
Experience working in a mass production manufacturing environment.
Injection molding experience.
"Nice to have" Qualifications
SolidWorks Routing experience.
Exposure to wire harness components.
Work EnvironmentThe role will involve working closely with the lead engineer, who will provide daily direction. The engineering team is small, consisting of only two members. Typical hours will be a 40-hour work week with some overtime depending on business needs. The company is a family-owned manufacturer and distributor of 12-volt lighting and accessories, primarily serving the recreational vehicle, agricultural, cargo trailer, marine, and truck industries. The majority of products are made domestically at the company's plant, which features injection molding capabilities and expertise in wire harnesses.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.66 - $40.86/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
