Job Title: BTR Test TechnicianJob DescriptionOur Battery Testing Laboratory is looking for a skilled Test Technician to conduct Battery Thermal Runaway (BTR) testing. This role involves tasks such as charging batteries, setting up test fixtures, wiring and connecting thermocouples, inducing BTR in test chambers remotely, cleaning test areas, and processing data and videos for test reports.Responsibilities

Observe all safety rules pertaining to BTR testing.

Understand and accurately execute test procedures in the lab, operating precision devices and measuring tools.

Charge the batteries to pre-determined levels in preparation for BTR tests.

Inspect and test all thermocouples, load cells, heaters, and other equipment for every test setup.

Perform the tests and collect data, process video feeds and numerical data to create technical reports, and accurately enter data into test log tables.

Clean the test area, fixtures, carts, and devices in preparation for setting up the next test.

Maintain all equipment including dust collector, pump, scrubber, chargers, etc., and issue maintenance tickets as needed.

Ensure the battery testing area is stocked with necessary supplies such as masks, gloves, batteries, thermocouples, and wires.

Order sub-systems and components according to purchasing policies.

Follow procedures to manage solid waste and wastewater.

Adhere to health, safety, and environmental protocols at all times.

Collaborate with the testing team in designing test fixtures and setups.

Participate in meetings and communicate issues with the team and management.

Work with vendors and estimate costs for assigned projects.

Essential Skills

5+ years of experience dealing with mechanical and electrical equipment in a laboratory, prototyping, or testing environment as a Test Technician.

Experience setting up tests, performing tests, recording, and reporting testing results.

An associate degree, BSc, or technical diploma in an engineering or technical field.

Experience with electric vehicle batteries (Li-ion) preferred, otherwise experience within electrical-based testing in a lab setting is expected.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Specific experience with electric vehicle batteries is a plus.

Ability to describe the process of setting up, performing, recording, and reporting tests in detail from past experience.

Work EnvironmentThe work environment includes an office with multiple lab areas and a shop. The specific area for this role includes a sealed testing room with 2 sealed chambers for conducting consecutive battery thermal runaway tests. Tests are executed remotely from outside the testing room. The facility includes a dining area with vending machines and drink dispensers. The workspace is clean, and the position supports a team of R&D Product Team Test Engineers and Test Technicians.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
