Mechanical Designer

SUMMARY The Designer position is responsible to work with engineers and team leaders in designing and detailing mechanical parts and systems used on commercial chassis.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Use NX and other design tools to create and maintain 3D part designs, detailed 2D part/assembly drawings, GD&T, packaging studies, and installation drawings for mechanical components and systems
  • Ensure appropriate application of tolerances and verify dimensional integrity and fit
  • Generate engineering bills and verify information
  • Support prototype builds, and production launches as needed to insure smooth implementation of new designs or design changes
  • Solve manufacturing and assembly problems utilizing problem solving techniques and methodologies
  • Provide estimated dates for completion of tasks assigned
  • Process engineering Change Notices (ECNs) generation and routing
  • Assist with design for standardization and cost reductions by establishing new ideas and concepts for fabrication and assembly
  • Provide input to engineering standards, practices, and policies
  • Embrace and support company's corporate policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates or Technical degree in mechanical engineering or technology required
  • 3-5 years of mechanical design experience
  • Proficient in CAD (NX preferred) for modelling and detailing
  • Experienced with working within a PLM system (Teamcenter preferred) for CAD data management, releases, ECNs, etc.
  • ANSI-Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Proficiency in PC based word processing and spreadsheets
  • BoM Maintenance
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for commercial vehicles
  • Design for Manufacturing knowledge for fabricated and formed metal parts, hoses, hard lines, etc.
  • Design for Assembly experience

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS
  • 5 - 10% to support supplier meetings.
