About the Role:
The Equipment Operator - Cedar plays a vital role in the upkeep and presentation of Shanty Creek’s golf courses. This position is responsible for the safe and effective operation of specialized turf equipment, including mowers, utility vehicles, and other tools essential to maintaining high-quality playing conditions.
Reporting to the Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent, the Equipment Operator supports day-to-day course maintenance activities such as mowing, trimming, debris removal, and other assigned tasks. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors in a team environment and have experience with or interest in turf care and equipment operation.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to safely operate grounds maintenance equipment (mowers, trimmers, utility carts, etc.)
Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license
Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in golf course, park, or turf maintenance
Familiarity with reel and rotary mowers and other turf care machinery
Knowledge of golf course layout and basic maintenance practices
Responsibilities:
Operate riding and walk-behind mowers to maintain greens, tees, fairways, and roughs
Use trimmers, blowers, and utility vehicles to perform routine course cleanup and detailing
Rake and maintain bunkers, water features, and landscaped areas
Follow daily work assignments and complete tasks in a timely and safe manner
Report mechanical issues or hazards to supervisors promptly
Assist with equipment setup, cleanup, and seasonal transitions
Support tournament and event preparations as directed
Maintain a clean and professional appearance while representing the maintenance team
Follow all resort safety protocols and equipment handling procedures
Skills:
The Equipment Operator must demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the highest course standards. The role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team in various weather conditions. Physical stamina, situational awareness, and a willingness to learn are essential. An appreciation for golf course aesthetics and respect for course etiquette are also important.
