Occupational TherapistJob DetailsLevelExperienced Job LocationLivonia Clinic - Livonia, MI Position TypeFull Time Education Level4 Year Degree Job CategoryNonprofit - Social Services $5,000.00 SIGNING BONUS POSITION SUMMARY: The occupational therapist will provide services to children birth to age five who have various medical, developmental, physical and/or mental health needs within an Early Childhood Education center. This position will provide assessment, education, and intervention to students. This position will also work closely with mental health and early childhood education staff to provide supportive multidisciplinary services to children and families within a preschool setting. Additionally, will provide assessment and therapeutic intervention in a clinic-based setting. EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy required. A Master’s Degree or Doctorate preferred.

Current State of Michigan Occupational Therapy required.

At least one year of direct work experience in providing services to children and their families is required.

Successful completion of the National Certification Examination for Registered Occupational Therapists.

Experience in clinic, community / home-based, and early education and/or school settings is preferred.

At least one year of direct work experience in providing services to children and their families is required; three to five years preferred.

Knowledge of typical and atypical early childhood development required.

DUTIES AND RESPONBILITES:

Provide comprehensive assessments, treatment planning and developmentally supportive interventions which include, but are not limited to providing services which are family centered and culturally and linguistically responsive, developing, improving, sustaining, and restoring communication skills in activities of daily living (ADL’s) within the context of a child and family’s natural environment.

Provides observations, consultations, and treatment within a preschool setting.

Educating clients, families, teachers, and multidisciplinary professionals on therapeutic interventions; provide modeling opportunities of interventions to be used throughout a client and family’s daily routines.

Promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing interventions according to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.

Evaluates results of occupational skills by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress; recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.

Completes discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers as appropriate; contributing to patient care conferences.

Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home. programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment; recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.

Maintain child files according to Starfish Family Services guidelines.

May develop and conduct in-service training programs for agency staff.

May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of typical and atypical child development required; knowledge of infancy and early childhood development is preferred.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, function independently off site and demonstrate good follow through and problem-solving skills.

Ability to demonstrate commitment, caring and respect for children and adults from diverse backgrounds that have multiple needs or problems.

Ability to work cooperatively and responsibly as a member of a team with colleagues, supervisors, agency staff and community referral contacts.

Ability to role model appropriate child-handling techniques to parents and staff.

Ability to make critical decisions independent of immediate supervision.

Knowledge of theory and intervention with infants and toddlers, family systems treatment and good understanding of child development and common child medical and behavioral issues required.

Must be computer literate- fax, email, and Microsoft office at minimum.

Ability to effectively, appropriately, and accurately communicate both orally and in writing.

Ability to meet productivity expectations as assigned by program supervisor and director.

Ability and willingness to abide by all Starfish Family Services confidentiality policies.

Ability and desire for personal and professional growth, and skill development.

Ability to demonstrate compassion and sensitivity and to respect the privacy and special needs of our clients.

Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.

Must have a commitment to the welfare of the children and families the program serves and to the delivery of quality services.

Ability to work flexible hours as needed.

Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner and develop new relationships with other community agencies.

LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a reliable mode of transportation and a valid State of Michigan driver’s license, which is insurable by our insurance carrier and current automobile insurance.
