Description We are offering a contract to permanent employment opportunity for a Staff Accountant in Lansing, Michigan. Responsibilities: Accurately review general ledger entries and electronic banking transactions, proposing necessary corrections. Prepare standard monthly and quarterly journal entries from transaction processing system reports, including Written and Unearned premium, paid losses, reserves, commissions, taxes, and various banking transactions. Monitor all loss-sensitive business for the enterprise, including recording monthly premium and loss transactions, invoicing and collection of premium and losses, calculation of retrospective premium adjustments, tracking and ensuring appropriate collateral and aggregates. Perform complex general ledger account reconciliations, independently proposing and making general ledger entries. Handle requests for disbursement issuance for premium, collateral, and claims refunds, fraudulent check claims, regulatory filings and commission calculations. Compile and maintain various financial schedules and reports for the enterprise, including regulatory, external and tax compliance. Assist in the routine preparation of tax schedules and returns for all entities. Complete ad hoc requests from various internal and external customers, through system analysis and review; this includes error resolution, system support and financial statement support. Support both external and internal audits of financial and regulatory financial reports and filings by providing detail schedules and support as requested. Propose efficiency opportunities or recommend improvements. Prepare, maintain and verify data accuracy in ancillary systems. Respond to internal and external customer requests via telephone or written correspondence, drafting necessary correspondence to address complaints or information requests. Maintain confidentiality of information processed.Requirements Hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field. Have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role. Show proficiency in using the General Ledger for accounting purposes. Display strong skills in Accounts Payable (AP) management. Exhibit experience and efficiency in handling Accounts Receivable (AR). Have a proven track record of successful Account Reconciliation. Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Display strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Show the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Exhibit proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite. Have a keen attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure. Show the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Display a strong understanding of financial regulations and legislation.
