Part-time Custodian / Caretaker for Downtown Church
$15-$20/hour, depending on experience
16-25 hours per week, negotiable/flexible

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in downtown Jackson, Michigan is looking for a highly responsible, reliable, and trustworthy person to care for its church building and support its mission, ministry, and members. We are an active, historic, and highly inclusive church.
We are looking for someone who is detail oriented, who enjoys cleaning and building maintenance, and who takes pride in their work. Ability to carry/lift/move medium-heavy objects is required.
We are most interested in finding the right person and have some flexibility around certain aspects of the position. Please still contact us if you are interested in one half of the job and not the other (i.e., Sundays only, or everything but Sundays).
Every Sunday: 7am - 3pm.
Arrive reliably by 7am to open the church building.
Provide a welcoming and watchful presence inside and outside of the building.
Interact with and assist members in their use of the building, help welcome visitors, be on watch and respond to safety and security issues if they arise.
Maintain cleanliness of restrooms, run commercial dishwasher, etc.
Address ice and snow on sidewalks when necessary.
Saturdays, times TBD, and/or other day(s) of the week
Thorough cleaning of the building, to include mopping and vacuuming of floors; seasonal stripping/waxing when needed; dusting; trash and recycling; glass door/window cleaning; dishwashing and kitchen cleaning, etc.
Care of the garden and grounds, to include litter pick-up, possible mowing of small lawn using a push mower, etc.
Set-up of tables and chairs for meetings and events, as needed
Opening/closing the building or particular rooms if events are scheduled, clean-up after events, etc.
Minor handy-man/repair tasks, if appropriately skilled
Additional hours may become available to support funerals, weddings, and special events.
All employees of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church are required to pass background checks and receive Safe Church training for sexual misconduct prevention.
