Job Title: Entry level CAD Designer. MUST have an Associate in CAD DesignJob DescriptionThe individual will be responsible for independently developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems for electric utility customers. This role focuses on system reliability and improvement by replacing old equipment with new. The candidate will review work provided by clients, assess requirements, and potentially conduct their own field work.Responsibilities
Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems.
Improve system consistency by replacing old equipment with new.
Review work provided by clients and assess requirements of the scopes.
Conduct field work including taking photos and measurements of assigned sites or circuits.
Use field information to create designs for the final electrical package.
Complete design work using Open Utilities, a Microstation-based CAD system.
Perform energy analysis to ensure material selection meets site requirements.
Create a Bill of Materials (BOM) to be entered in SAP/Material Tracking Software.
Assist with potential permits for utility lines to cross roads, easements, or private property.
Submit completed electrical construction packages for approval and make revisions as needed.
Communicate frequently with clients via email, phone, and Teams.
Use additional software such as Poleforman, PLA/Pole Loading Analysis, and Katapault for structural analysis and data collection.
Apply National Electric Safety Codes (NESC) when making designs or selecting materials.
Collaborate with a designated final Quality Control approver on necessary changes or revisions.
Essential Skills
Associate Degree in CAD
Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, or Microstation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Entry-level engineers or designers with relevant degrees or associates in design.
Candidates with specific distribution or utility experience without a degree.
Work Environment
This role offers 100% remote work options in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and West Pennsylvania. Michigan-based candidates have the option to work from the office, conduct field work, or work from home. Out-of-state candidates will be required to spend a week or two in Michigan for initial training, with all expenses covered. The position is directly connected to the Utility Energy Division, which recently secured a large contract for distribution and reliability work.
