Small Engine Mechanic – Mowers & Outdoor Power Equipment

We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Small Engine Mechanic to join our team servicing residential and commercial lawn and garden equipment. This position is ideal for someone with a passion for fixing things, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering top-notch customer service.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have 1–2 years of hands-on experience working with small engines, lawn and garden equipment, or related machinery such as diesel, heavy equipment, or powersports. Strong diagnostic ability, mechanical skills, and a customer-first mindset are essential. Comfort with computer-based tools and a positive team attitude are also key to success.
Purpose:
Independently perform in-shop and occasional on-site diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on John Deere, Stihl, Honda, and other outdoor power equipment handled by Tri County Equipment.
Responsibilities:
Diagnose and repair small engines, mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, generators, and related equipment
Review and document service, repairs, and maintenance work on work orders accurately
Perform seasonal service packages and pre-delivery inspections
Stay current on service bulletins and attend manufacturer and in-house training
Maintain tools, shop equipment, and a clean work area
Assist customers with basic troubleshooting and usage guidance
Promote Tri County Equipment’s service programs when appropriate
Follow all safety protocols and dealership guidelines
Track all time, parts, and materials used during work assignments
Qualifications:
1+ years of experience in small engine or related equipment repair
Solid mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills
Ability to read and follow service manuals and schematics
Familiarity with service software and parts lookup systems
Strong communication and customer service skills
Able to lift 75 lbs repeatedly and handle physical tasks throughout the day
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or certifications preferred
Valid driver’s license required
Forklift certification preferred
Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with John Deere, Stihl, Honda, Kawasaki, Briggs & Stratton, or Kohler products
Basic Service Technician certification or manufacturer training
