Qualifications:
5-10 years of hands-on experience in mold design or manufacturing is critical
Experience in a supervisory or management role within manufacturing, specifically in a mold shop environment is ideal
Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, CNC programming, CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, and other manufacturing technologies
Knowledge of injection mold design principles, including understanding blueprints, schematics, and specifications
Essential duties/responsibilities:
Operational Management:
Oversee daily operations of the mold shop, ensuring that all manufacturing processes are efficient, safe, and meet quality standards.
Manage production schedules to meet customer delivery requirements while optimizing resource use.
Mold Design:
Create detailed designs for injection molds using CAD software, ensuring that the mold can produce parts that meet specified dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards.
Design mold components like cores, cavities, gates, runners, cooling systems, and ejection mechanisms.
Quality Control:
Implement and maintain quality assurance protocols to ensure products meet industry standards and customer specifications.
Conduct regular inspections of molds and finished products to detect defects or deviations from standards.
Team Leadership:
Lead, train, and develop a team of mold makers, technicians, and other staff. This includes hiring, performance evaluations, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Handle conflict resolution and ensure team coordination for smooth operation.
Maintenance and Upkeep:
Ensure all machinery and equipment are well-maintained, scheduling regular maintenance and managing repairs to minimize downtime.
Oversee the inventory of molds, tools, and parts, ensuring they are in good condition and available when needed.
Project Management:
Manage mold design projects from conception through to production, ensuring design specifications meet customer needs.
Coordinate with design and engineering teams to solve problems related to mold design or performance.
Cost Management:
Control budget and costs associated with mold production, including labor, materials, and machinery.
Look for cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality or efficiency.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure that all operations comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
Implement safety programs and training to prevent workplace accidents.
Customer Relations:
Act as a point of contact for customer inquiries regarding mold design, production status, or technical issues.
Handle customer complaints and work towards resolutions that maintain or enhance customer satisfaction.
Innovation and Technology Adoption:
Keep abreast of advancements in injection molding technology and methods. Decide on the adoption of new technologies or techniques that could improve shop performance.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of production, quality checks, maintenance, and employee performance.
Prepare and present reports on shop performance, issues, and progress to upper management.
