Our deep-rooted commitment to excellence, collaboration, integrity, diversity and inclusion creates exceptional educational opportunities which prepare students for success in a global society.Essential functions (job duties):Job PurposeThis position will be an integral part of the Academic Research Technology (ART) team and serve as a first point of contact for the WSU research community and C&IT and serve as a guide to the many services and technologies available at WSU. They will provide assistance in many forms, including one-on-one consultation on project design and execution, collaborative problem solving, community building, as well as documentation and training.Essential FunctionsResearch Consultation and Support Provide guidance for faculty and researchers in using Academic Research Technology, Computing and Information Technology, and other university services for use in writing grants, building proof of concepts, managing ongoing research, and publishing data. Provide initial troubleshooting to identify, investigate, and resolve technical problems and work to handoff to appropriate teams where necessary. Pursue opportunities for collaborations in funded and published research. Serve as liaison to the WSU research community, Division of Research, University Libraries, and other internal and external research affiliates and participate in or chair working groups. Participate in funding proposals, attend research and computing conferences.Documentation, Professional Development, and Communication Develop documentation for research technologies for publication on the C&IT website Create training materials and develop curricula and provide in person training for supported technologies. Develop and disseminate whitepapers and best practice documents, as well as collaborate with communications department on news releases. Work with ART and communications teams to develop and publish web content and send surveys and directed communications. Maintain the ART IT service catalog. Create descriptions, forms, maintain and internal and external links. Monitor feedback and communicate with customers to improve services and find gaps in services provided.Technical Support Work with the High-Performance Computing (HPC), Research Support, and Research Administrative Support teams to learn the services they provide and make recommendations based on customer feedback. Cloud support including billing setup, monitoring, identity management, facilitate the use of cloud resources, etc. Light scripting and automation. Basic Windows and Linux server support.Perform other related duties as assigned.WORK CONTEXTJob Reports to: Senior Director/ChairLeadership Accountability: Implements operating plansCustomer Accountability: Interfaces with customers outside the S/C/DFreedom to Act: Operates with significant autonomyQualifications:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation Bachelor's degreeExperience Intermediate (3 to 4 years job-related experience) Two years of research or research support experience in a compute intensive area, or experience in research computingfacilitation. Experience with providing assistance to educated professionals in a technical environmentKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills, with attention to interpersonal relationships and professionalism Understanding of data manipulation and analysis, database usage, SQL, data reporting and visualization, and related tools and technologies Knowledge of High-Performance Computing, Virtual computing and containers, Windows and Linux server administration, cloud computing environments Proficiency in one or more scripting or programming languagesSchool/College/Division:H25 - Computing & Info TechnologyPrimary department:H2530 - Academic Research TechnologyEmployment type:
