The Oncology Care Associate II is a member ofthe patient care delivery team with primary responsibilities for technical,multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities. The Oncology Care Associate II work under thesupervision of a Registered Nurse who delegate’s tasks based upon both patientand unit needs. The Oncology CareAssociate II will report all deviations from expected patient parameters to theRegistered Nurse. The Oncology CareAssociate II position necessitates significant contact withhealth care providers, patients, andfamilies,thus warranting a high degree of interpersonaland customer service skills that promote a healing environment.The OCA aids the healthcare team in the attainment of desiredpatient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.Responsibilities:

Collaboratesand cooperates in establishing a healing environment in which the patient,family and healthcare team focus on the aspects of care, which have beenmutually determined to be most important.

Gives/receivesshift hand off report for patient care or desk duties as assigned.Performs a variety of basic patient care activities under the direction ofthe Registered Nurse which may include, but are not limited to: Assistingpatient in activities of daily living by feeding, bathing, toileting andother personal hygiene regimes. Performing designated respiratoryprocedures such as pulse oximetry, cough and deep breathing exercises, andtracheotomy care; maintenance locomotion (ambulation); maintenance functionalactivities (range of motion, assisting with bed repositioning,transferring); specimen collection; phlebotomy; simple dressing changes,performing EKGs; initiation, set-up, maintenance or discontinuation ofperipheral IV lines; maintain enteral tubes; urinary catheterization;suctioning; blood glucose monitoring; assisting with post-mortem care.Assists the Registered Nurse by gatheringdata on patient conditions, direct patient observation, obtaining vitalsigns, recording oral intakes, recording outputs, weighing patients andcharting patient information within the medical record.Reports changes in patient medicalcondition to the Registered Nurse.

Performsgeneral clerical duties which may include, but are not limited to,answering telephones and call lights promptly using scripted greeting,greeting patients and visitors, maintaining departmental files, pagingprofessional staff, requesting prior medical records, ordering equipmentand maintaining inventory of supplies.Performs general straightening and organization of patient careenvironment, nursing station, conference rooms, bulletin boards andvisitor areas.Utilizes informationtechnology devices for the purpose of processing nurse orders, retrievingdocuments, entering data, calling consults, scheduling procedures andtransportation requests, and transferring /discharging patientsaccordingly. Monitors PAL and notifies nurses of Stat and new orders.Prepares and reviews medical records to ensure accuracy and completenessfor the following processes:Patient admission, discharge, transfer, and expiration.Files documents within the medicalrecord in accurate and timely fashion. Prepares/sends Thank you cards topatients who have been discharged.

Highschool diploma or GED.

Graduationfrom a school of practical nursing, a Certified Nurse Assistant Program, aMedical Assistant Program, or equivalent training

Previoushospital experience preferred.

Must beable to successfully complete the basic cardiac arrhythmia monitoringclass.
