Traction Inverter Test Engineer - Software

You will be responsible for development and validation testing of xEV traction inverters and related sub-components. Your contributions will directly support development of HV power electronics for current and future model electrified powertrains. As a phenomenal teammate, you will build impact by collaborating across the Electrified Powertrain Engineering organization and with key work partners throughout the company.In this role you will

Work in lab environment testing traction inverters for electrical motor drive systems

Collaborate with internal software engineers on the design and release of ECU embedded software to support traction inverter development and validation test activities

Lead interactions with test automation system vendors; cascade ECU module control interface details (HW layer, comms protocol, diagnostics, etc.) and provide/coordinate technical guidance to ensure vendor delivers compatible test automation software interface to ECU module

Configure, build and flash laboratory test software and calibrations into traction inverter

Support lab safety initiatives and safe testing practices

Configure and operate data acquisition equipment, including oscilloscopes and power analyzers, to measure and record critical test parameters

Prepare work instructions and provide direction to lab technicians on test article setup

Operate high voltage (HV) test cells, battery simulators, 3phase loads, DUT coolant chillers, environmental thermal / thermal shock chambers, and data acquisition systems

Perform testing in accordance with documented instructions and safety protocols.

Process test data, confirm accuracy of results and prepare detailed reports.

Support Root Cause Analysis workstreams to identify and resolve quality-related issues

The minimum requirements we seek

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field

3+ years of experience developing ECU module communication interface solutions using CAN, CAN-FD, XCP, UDS, ARXML, or automotive Ethernet communication protocols

3+ years of experience configuring ECU module control and diagnostic sessions (OBDII or similar) for data collection and module flashing

2+ years of experience using ECU development & calibration software programs such as ATI VISION, ETAS INCA, Vector CANape, etc.

Demonstratable experience debugging automotive ECU test setups including resolution of application software, firmware, and hardware configuration issues.

Our preferred requirements

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field

3+ years of experience setting up ECU module communications per Ford Netcom specifications

3+ years of experience in developing, debugging and testing of low-level driver and embedded application software for automotive ECUs

Strong knowledge of high power/high voltage inverter design topologies and motor control theories

2+ years of experience developing scripts for and performing data analysis with MATLAB, GNU Octave, Python or similar software

2+ years of experience with testing of traction inverters or other HV power electronic devices

2+ years of experience using electrical test and measurement equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, power meters, voltage/current probes)

Experience using JIRA

Experience using industry standard test automation software (e.g. AVL LYNX, NI LabVIEW, etc.)

Strong problem-solving skills with ability to understand sophisticated test setups and manage multiple tasks

Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, self-motivated, eager to take ownership and deliver results with minimal direction

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
