This position will help manage the UMMG's large and diverse book of business ($1B in annual activity). The primary responsibilities will be the development and ongoing management of major projects and initiatives, executive analyses, and financial strategy in support of the UMMG's and Michigan Medicine's (MM) goals and objectives.What You'll DoReporting to the UMMG's Associate Chief Financial Officer (ACFO), candidates for this position are expected to exhibit strong leadership skills and function accordingly across disciplines and teams. The MM Finance team is a cohesive group of individuals who value one another and leveraging one another's strengths, and candidates must embrace and thrive off this culture. Candidates should also have a strong understanding of financial concepts and a thorough financial acumen. Experience in and understanding of Academic Medical Centers is desired.As the Strategic Planner Lead, a typical day will include:

Evaluating internal or external proposals, helping to determine their strategic fit with UMMG and MM priorities, and developing sufficient detail and understanding of the proposal to allow a clear yes/no decision to be made to implement the proposal.

Employing modeling and analytic techniques across multiple data sets and translating complex analyses into actionable information for executive level decision-making. Data sets or areas of focus may include business plans, ROI analyses, competitive analyses and benchmarking, cost analyses, risk assessments, risk management, strategic planning, and cash management.

Reviewing the financial analysis, modeling, and planning completed by members of the team, and offering feedback on results, modifications, and areas of improvement.

Presenting at various meetings and forums across the institution on the performance of these investments made by the UMMG.

Developing and promoting innovative approaches to decision making throughout all levels of the organization, with an ability to leverage financial data as needed and to ensure that high value solutions are identified, planned, and executed.

Building collaborative relationships within Michigan Medicine Central Finance and Michigan Medicine Department of Strategy and promoting a culture of teamwork, service, and excellence

Engaging with members of the team and ensuring tasks are completed, projects are on pace to meet deadlines, and team member's needs are met.

Working closely with the ACFO to ensure projects are planned and completed effectively and that the team's efforts are in alignment with the goals of the broader team and institution.

Working closely with the ACFO to define short- and long-term plans for department structure, team development, and succession planning.

ResponsibilitiesPrimary Job FunctionsThis position will entail the following activities and functions, and knowledge and/or interest in these primary areas are desired:

Manage the Michigan Medicine RVU Model: maintain and optimize the current model, provide additional costing and scenario modeling based on industry implications and internal affordability, and monitor external benchmarking and related research.

Support the design and execution of UMMG Performance Incentives: manage the measurement of incentives and develop dashboarding and oversee transactions.

UMMG Board and Committees support : provide analysis and ad hoc support for the UMMG Budget and Finance Committee, RVU Sub-Committee and other leadership requests.

Clinical funds flow and Budget support : provide support to the analysts responsible for the annual UMMG budget and monthly management reporting, including coordination with Michigan Medicine Revenue Cycle on Professional revenue budgeting and forecasting and all related activity of clinical funds flows from UM-H to MS.

Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) :management, development and tracking of active agreements between UMMG/University of Michigan Health (UMH) and Medical School departments that have a $125M annual impact.

Strategic Partnerships support : provide support for all Professional Service Agreements (PSAs) with external partners including billing, pricing, management of funds flow and department engagement, department outreach incentives, and the integration of Sparrow and UM Health West health systems into these agreements.

UMMG planning and analysis: provide planning and analytical support for all aspects of UMMG operations, including analysis of clinician compensation and productivityand ad hoc financial analyses for Michigan Medicine executive leadership as requested.

Develop, interpret, and implement overly complex financial and accounting concepts, and advanced techniques for financial planning and control.

Execute and oversee specialized technical analysis to determine present and future financial performance.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in finance, Business, or similar

Two or more years of experience managing financial and/or budgetary responsibilities.

Demonstrated ability in business analyses, methodology development, and development of strategic recommendations for leadership.

Deal effectively and persuasively with people at all levels of an organization

Think strategically, logically and exercise sound judgment

Desired Qualifications

Master's degree in finance, Business, or similar

Three or more years of experience managing complex financial operations.

Experience directly managing a team of two or more employees.

Experience managing financial operations in government and/or healthcare settings.
