Social Worker MSW/MSW SR - 1.0 FTE, Child and Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatric UnitApply NowJob SummaryThis is a full-time position that involves being an integral member of an interdisciplinary team on the Inpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit in Mott Children's Hospital. This position serves children and adolescents who are struggling with a wide range of acute psychiatric issues. The functions of this role include psychosocial assessments, care coordination, discharge planning including safety planning, brief individual therapeutic interventions, and family therapy. Knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis, mental health interventions, and community resources is desired. Completion of psychosocial assessments with patients and their families

Coordination with community outpatient providers

Regular contact with families to provide psychoeducation, assistance with discharge planning, as well as family therapy

Discharge planning to include safety planning with patients/families and establishing comprehensive follow up care plans post discharge

Participating in team meetings and other care coordination meetings. This will require the ability to articulate psychosocial dimensions of case, family concerns, and progress/barriers to discharge planning

Required Qualifications

A Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.

A current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan.

Desired Qualifications

Previous experience working on an inpatient psychiatric unit.

Skilled in developing rapport and effectively communicating with a diverse patient population.

Efficient, accurate assessment of patient needs and effective case dispositions.

Effective organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks in a dynamic inpatient unit.

Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position.

Effective collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team.

Proficiency in keeping accurate and timely clinical records by computer.

Experience with evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, PST, ACT, DBT) and familiarity with brief, structured interventions (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation) along with a basic knowledge of psychopharmacology.

Experience and knowledge about the vast array of psychiatric disorders and their presentation in a hospital setting.

Knowledge about suicide assessment and the impact on family system of a suicidal child. Evidence-based safety planning techniques required.
