The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position, outline skills and experience that directly relate to this position, and your background/interest in LGBTQ+ health, HIV prevention, and/or mental health research.SummaryThe Department of Epidemiology at the University of Michigan, School of Public Health (UM) is seeking a Research Area Specialist to join multiple projects in LGBTQ+ health equity, specializing in transgender and gender diverse population health, led by Dr. Sari Reisner. The projects are focused on HIV prevention, mental health, community-engaged research methods, and the social and contextual factors that shape health and contribute to health inequities.The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of duties including: support day-to-day team operations; submit and maintain IRB protocols; conduct community engagement, recruitment, and data collection activities; develop and maintain study databases; conduct data analysis and contribute to interpretation of results; prepare manuscripts and conference abstracts/presentations as a co-author or lead author; conduct literature searches; support grant writing and reporting; website maintenance and other administrative tasks. The person who fills this position should have interest in LGBTQ+ health equity and thrive collaborating with interdisciplinary and multisite public health teams. This unique position offers ample opportunities for training and professional development.Responsibilities

Project management: Prepare, submit, and maintain IRB protocols and approvals. Coordinate data use agreements, organize study documentation, assist with scheduling team meetings, participant incentives, reimbursement requests, and maintain website content. Provide functional supervision to student employees, approving time, delegating work, and coordinating training. Monitor budget and provide reports as needed.

Data management: Compile and organize survey measures and data collection instruments. Manage the programming, organization, documentation, merging, cleaning, and storage of datasets. Create and document final analytic datasets.

Data analysis: Design and execute data analysis. Interpret results, including creation of data tables, visualizations, and reports for presentation to the study team.

Manuscript preparation: Contribute to the writing of scientific manuscripts as co-author or lead author for publication and collaborates in development of conference abstracts and presentations. Conduct literature reviews.

Other research duties as assigned.

Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in a health sciences discipline (Public Health, Epidemiology) or a related field, Master's degree preferred. 1-3 years of experience working in a research setting, including IRB submissions, participant recruitment, and data collection/management. Experience with REDCap, Qualtrics, or other survey software. Experience collecting and analyzing health data. Proficient with at least one statistical programming language (SAS, R and/or STATA). Excellent written communication skills, including manuscript preparation and creating progress reports.Desired QualificationsExperience conducting both quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Experience co-authoring or leading peer-reviewed publications and/or scientific abstracts/presentations. Demonstrated experience in project management. Experience working in research in LGBTQ+ health, HIV prevention, and/or mental health research.Work ScheduleThis position allows for a hybrid work schedule. The selected candidate will be expected to work onsite for 2 days per week.
