Job Title: Entry Level Civil Substation EngineerJob DescriptionAn engineering consulting firm in Ann Arbor is looking to add an entry-level civil engineer to join their substation team. This role is in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our Ann Arbor, Michigan office. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office). Initially, the candidate must be willing to work full-time in the office for a period, which could be several weeks or months, eventually leading to a flexible schedule with both in-office and remote work.Responsibilities
All aspects of substation civil design including permitting support, site design, foundation design, structure design, and control building design
Development of civil construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules
Support of substation physical design with bus analysis calculations and coordinating with multiple disciplines on results
Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements
Understand and incorporate typical structural code requirements
Coordination with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation design
Occasional travel will be required
Essential Skills
Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering degree from an accredited college
Ability to perform basic civil engineering tasks
Ability to independently create calculation packages
Mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam, or the ability to complete the FE exam within one year
Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills
Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV) is a plus
Experience with AutoCAD, Microstation, RISA, MatchCAD, LPile, and Civil 3D are beneficial
Geotechnical experience is a plus
Professional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure in multiple states
Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedules
Work EnvironmentThis position offers flexibility for a hybrid work environment after an initial in-office period. The role includes occasional travel and the use of design software such as AutoCAD, Microstation, RISA, MatchCAD, LPile, and Civil 3D. The office environment supports collaboration among multiple disciplines contributing to substation design.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.00 - $38.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
