Responsibilities
Collect and report data for on-going process monitoring.
Process HPC, Apheresis, HPC, Marrow and other cellular products by various methods.
Perform tests using SOP involving multiple methodologies.
Perform specialized techniques such as, T cell depletion, CD34 selection and other new technologies as they arise.
Perform cellular therapy product counts and report results to appropriate individuals.
Prepares cellular therapy products for cryopreservation and storage in liquid nitrogen.
Thaw cryopreserved products and assists with the re-infusion.
Set up OR for HPC, Marrow harvest, assist as scrub tech during the harvest and prepare HPC, Marrow bags with proper labeling.
Receive, inspect, sort and check in samples.
Detect, trouble shoot and correct equipment, reagent and system failures.
Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment.
Perform preventative quality control and quality assurance duties.
Participate in continuous improvement activities.
Maintain a database of components that can be discarded or used for research purposes.
Follows institution safety procedures.
Participate in annual continuing education and competencies.
Participates in the introduction and evaluation of new procedures, supplies and equipment.
Orient and train new technologists, students, and residents, etc. as assigned.
Required QualificationsIn order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.
A baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences equivalent laboratory science or in a chemical, physical or biological science.
SkillsDemonstrated ability to independently organize and prioritize work.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with other medical personnel.
Demonstrated ability to demonstrate and explain technical procedures and policies.
Demonstrated ability to recognize problems and take appropriate action.
Skills basic to the practice of medical laboratory technology.
Desired Qualifications
Certification or eligibility to be certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist is desired.
