Responsibilities

Provide health care to Neurosurgery patients, with primary emphasis on spine patients and secondary on brachial plexus/peripheral nerve.

Assist Neurosurgeons in the diagnosis and treatment of spine patients, as well as assisting in preoperative and postoperative care independently and through collaborative relationships.

Interview patients to obtain a detailed history; perform physical examinations and information/data to the medical staff; complete a thorough history and physical examination that is problem oriented for neurosurgical conditions.

Present that patient to the attending neurosurgeon's and then help formulate a treatment plan, order appropriate radiographic studies and perform office procedures.

Collect and assist in the interpretation of reports from diagnostic and laboratory tests; radiographic procedures and clinical studies; administer follow-up to patients and assist in the referral to various internal and external facilities.

Evaluate postoperative patients and routine follow up visits.

Be available to see those patients that require a same day office visit.

Provide routine neurosurgical services effectively and efficiently; compile and record detailed narrative evaluations / dictations.

Return phone calls from patients, handle prescription refills.

Manage all aspects of patient care coordination with a multi-disciplinary team, including Michart inbasket work

Will assist and participate in quality initiatives and research endeavors within the department.

Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.

Current specialty certification to practice as a n Adult-Gerontology Primary Care or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, or Family Nurse Practitioner

Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).

Current DEA registration required

Minimum of two (2) recent years of APP experience with neurosurgical spine population.

Recent outpatient APP experience

PA:

Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.

Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

Satisfactory completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.

State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required

Current DEA registration required

Minimum of two (2) recent years of APP experience with neurosurgical spine population.

Recent outpatient APP experience

Demonstrated experience in evaluation and care of preoperative and postoperative surgical patients.

Demonstrated experience with the management of chronic pain patients.

Demonstrated ability to prioritize, problem solve, and delegate effectively and efficiently.

Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team with other advanced practice professionals.

Demonstrates excellent communication skills

Demonstrated experience with program development.

Demonstrate experience with research initiatives.
