Administrative Dir HealthcareApply NowJob SummaryThe Adult Hospitals Administrative Director will be responsible for leading the strategic facility/building renovation projects within University Hospital, Frankel Cardiovascular Center and Pavilion (beyond opening) as the operations lead working closely with our Associate Team and operational leaders, Facilities and AEC. Additionally, the role will serve as point for defining and managing environment of care needs related to inpatient surge spaces, coordinating building/facility upgrades and service disruptions, and facilitating key renovations and projects that expand the capabilities of Adult Hospitals. This role works closely with the AH executive and associate operational leaders to assure operational functioning, minimized impact or disruption to healthcare services and assures safety and quality, timeliness, and financial management of the respective projects.This work will be facilitated within the context of a comprehensive view of all adult services across UH, CVC and the Pavilion (beyond the opening of the Pavilion) to assure the coordination of staff, services, equipment, IT, and supplies are implemented appropriately and timely. This role will require a keen understanding of data analytics including activity assumptions, project timelines, financials, and detailed project information and presenting plans to leadership and assuring appropriate stakeholder communication and engagement while maintaining projects on schedule and on budget.Supervision ReceivedDirect supervision is received from the Adult Hospitals Chief Operating Officer. Functional supervision is provided by the Adult Hospitals Executive Leadership Team (Chief Operating Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, and Chief Clinical Officer).Supervision ExercisedFunctional supervision and ongoing direction will be provided to the UH 2.0 project team (expected to be in place for 6-8 years), which will consist of project managers, logistics support, admin assistant support, and where applicable, staff associates and those involved in the execution of facility projects.Responsibilities

Requires a keen understanding of Adult Hospitals strategic plans including the Pavilion, UH 2.0, CVC and relevant clinical areas within, to lead and maintain alignment with those plans, through evolving planning, design and construction activities working closely with operational efforts.

Lead the development of a tactical roadmap for executing facility plans to include post Pavilion needs, UH 2.0 long-term project plan, UHS-5 and several other projects within AH.This includes interfacing with, seeking input from, advising, and directing as needed key stakeholders including operations, finance, capacity management, facilities, clinical departments, and others as necessary.

Help build and maintain awareness and alignment among relevant stakeholders of the project plan throughout its multiple phases of execution.

Support, facilitate and assure governance approvals for the various project phases including leading relevant analytics, preparing presentations, and briefing relevant Adult Hospitals and UMH executive leaders.This also requires alignment of the above threshold and strategic financial framework capital projects with governance, hospital finance, executive leadership, operational leadership aligned with respective planning efforts.

Responsible to manage the operational impacts of all service outages, facility upgrades, HITS upgrades tied to facilities and facility systems, and align with the associate and executive and operational leaders to assure timing, access, and safe and appropriate quality care is not disrupted.

Advance, direct, and advise on analytics related to future inpatient and surgical demand and prepare recommendations for operational leaders including future bed needs and placement, OR demand, sequencing of UH renovations, and project financials, including capital needs.

Understand, refresh, and refine various analytical models, including activity forecasting, capital planning, and UH renovation sequencing as applicable.

Lead new strategic planning efforts, in collaboration with operational and clinical leaders on new opportunities relevant to the Adult Hospitals.

Assess analytics related to future inpatient and surgical demand to prepare recommendations for operational leaders for future bed placement, OR modeling, aligned with facility renovation recommendations to determine facility approach and timing.

Provide ongoing briefings and presentations to the Operations Committee and key leadership groups for status updates to keep members abreast of the adult services projects (UH, Pavilion, and CVC) related to clinical operations planning and activation/implementation efforts in partnership with Associate leaders and ELT.

Prepare regular update presentations to groups upon request including EDF, Admin Forum, UMHS Lead Team, Adult Hospitals Operations Committee, and respective project Steering Committees, and other committees/departments as requested to share progress and prepare departments to align and assure adequate workforce planning and activation.

Provide information as needed to the Financial Business team.This work would be conducted with the respective department financial leaders working closely with the Michigan Medicine Controller and the AH Associate Chief Financial Officer.

Participate and guide ongoing discussion with operational leaders regarding the UH and CVC backfill space as a plan for after the Pavilion opens.This includes providing an assessment of which services will remain in UH and CVC and how they will be implemented and expanded aligned with a planned renovation to the space to facilitate expense expectations within the Strategic Financial Framework (SFF).

Provide recommendations and oversight to the communication plan related to milestones and key updates related to respective projects (e.g. UH backfill plan) considering respective stakeholders and timing of plan.

Coordinate and conduct complex analyses regarding clinical programming and planning assuring plans are consistent with activity growth projections and planning assumptions assuring Adult Hospitals operational leader input and agreement.

Assess, vet and present data to be sure that capacity is matched appropriately with the projected volumes and utilize these data to assure appropriate leadership decisions are made with respect to services that will occupy the respective hospital buildings.

Utilize project management expertise to provide an organized, systematic, proactive approach to operations planning to coordinate the clinical and support services that will have a role within the building.

Meet with respective stakeholders to ensure a well vetted and approved implementation of the UH backfill plan including the preparation of an organized and smooth transition.

Work with stakeholder groups, operational leaders, and Human Resources workforce planning teams to ensure agreed upon numbers of trained staff are present and prepared to deliver appropriate, safe, and adequate clinical services.

Manage within the proposed capital renovation budget, schedule, and project scope without compromising intended program or facility excellence.Escalate issues that require discussion and further leadership involvement.

Work with related departments to be sure that the necessary clinical and ancillary services are provided as planned and within cost-effective means and timed according to activation milestones.

Align the UMHS strategy and institutional priorities to facilitate appropriate operations management and planning.

Promote patient, staff, faculty, patient, and family satisfaction by planning and promoting excellent customer service to provide operations that will meet their respective needs seeking input throughout the process.

The role may serve as an institutional Administrator-on-Call or Incident-Commander on Call, sharing in the emergency response with leaders across Michigan Medicine.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in public health, health services administration, business administration, or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated progressively responsible roles and expanding scope in strategic planning, operations and/or managing large-scale system projects.

Demonstrated knowledge of medical/clinical environment and understanding of inpatient and surgical operations.

Demonstrated ability to solve complex operational issues related to clinical, staffing, equipment, building, and clinical support bringing together teams to implement steps to bring to resolution.

Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to patient and family centered care principles.

Strong analytical skills and ability to identify, secure, and analyze complex data.

Excellent organizational and communication skills including written and verbal.

Considerable customer service with strong interpersonal and collaborative working relationships.

Desired Qualifications
