The position of EHS Engineer is responsible for the coordination and implementation of environmental, safety, and health initiatives and reporting at the facility to assure compliance with local, state, federal, and company worker safety, health, and environmental regulations and programs. Proactively drives awareness, communicates best practices, provides training and implements new programs related to EHS. Integral part of the onsite Continuous Improvement Program.Main Functions:Health, Safety, and Environmental Program Facilitation: Develops and implements on-site environment, health, and safety protocols, procedures, and initiatives in accordance with general corporate policies and regulatory requirements. This position is a subject matter expert in the factory for HSE incident investigation and follow up. Tracks action items and follows through to completion. Works closely with all levels of the organization to assure that all risk associated with HSE are documented and appropriately ranked by priority for immediate and/ or scheduled action. Helps lead the factory Employee Safety Committee. (40%)
Training: Trains and advises the plant employees, contractors and visitors regarding all SG HSE protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Maintains knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends in area of specialty. (10%)
Reporting: Prepares and submits various Saint Gobain Health & Safety reports and provides all required Environmental data and reports to the Environmental Manager on the Worcester, MA campus. (5%)
Continuous Improvement: Leads the Health, Safety, and Environmental Pillars within the onsite Continuous Improvement Program (World Class Manufacturing). Will own and track Health & Safety and Environmental KPIs. Will ensure Risk Reduction Projects are identified in high risk areas and oversee their planning and execution. Conducts risk assessments, develops, and implements action plans. (25%)
HAZMAT Coordination: Inspects, evaluates, and oversees the disposition of all hazardous materials used and stored on site; monitors usage of hazardous materials and makes recommendations as appropriate. Also maintains the facility’s SDS program. (5%)
Safety Equipment Reliability: Monitors and inspects fire, safety, and environmental equipment and facilities for serviceability and compliance with established regulations, policies, and standards. (15%)
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety; or Engineering; or equivalent – Required
2-3 years Industrial Health & Safety and Environmental Compliance - Required
2-3 years Manufacturing Experience – Preferred
Project Management Skills
Ability to interpret blueprints, architectural, mechanical, and electrical documents
Knowledge about chemicals, environmental science, and human health
Hands on leader who leads by example and values time invested on the shop floor
Must possess good people skills in order to convey safety procedures and protocols to all levels of the organization
Ability of using various scientific rules and methods to solve problems coupled with the ability to detect and solve problems effectively
Preferred:
OSHA 10 hour or 30-hour certification
40 Hour HAZWOPER
Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST); or Safety Trained Supervisor (STS); or Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
Certified Loss Control Specialist (CLCS); or Associate Loss Control Manager (ALCM)
Certified Associate Industrial Hygienist (CAIH)
RCRA and Hazardous Waste Management Certification
