St. Bernard’s High School is hiring for a year-round, full-time, salaried Business Manager. As a critical part of our administrative team, the Business Manager is responsible for administering the school’s finances and works in partnership with numerous stakeholders. He or she processes accounts receivable, accounts payable, performs bank reconciliations, generates month-end and year-end financial reports, and performs payroll and administrative HR functions for all school employees. This role is integral in developing and monitoring the annual budget, maintaining the accounting systems and overseeing the tuition contracts for families. Additionally, the Business Manager provides assistance in office administration and other areas as needed to further the mission of St. Bernard’s.
This position reports to the Principal, but also helps support the Director of External Relations regarding accounting matters.
Job Duties
Cash Receipts and Disbursement Cycles
Records cash receipts in the general ledger and subsidiary records
Performs month-end reconciliation procedures
Sets up and manages tuition accounts for all school families
Prepares bank deposits
Processes vendor invoices and other check requests; prepares checks for principal’s signature
Records checks in the general ledger and cash disbursements journal
Performs month-end reconciliation procedures
Payroll
Obtains and gathers applicable payroll and employee benefit information for processing
Computes wages and withholdings
Processes payroll; performs reconciliation procedures
Prepares annual payroll information returns (W-2s, 1099s, etc.)
Human Resources
Maintains Payroll Files for all school personnel
Manages paperwork for newly hired employees and for staff leaving employment
Handles disability claims and workers compensation claims as needed
Serves as local resource on Employee Benefits matters, managing annual Open Enrollment process and handling staff inquiries throughout the year
General Ledger and Financial Statements
Prepares monthly journal entries; reconciles bank accounts and other general ledger accounts; reviews general ledger activity and post adjusting journal entries
Produces monthly and annual school financial statements
Attends Finance Committee meetings, as needed
Prepares work papers in preparation for annual external audit
School-Specific Duties
Using the school’s information system (FACTS SIS), assists in the determination of financial aid packages and ensures student financial aid and scholarships are appropriately apportioned
Ensures that all tuition dollars are properly collected and accounted for; communicates with families who are struggling to make tuition payments and coordinates effective planning to support timely payments
Assists the Director of External Affairs with bookkeeping and administrative tasks as needed
Assists the Principal and Finance Committee with the budget
Supports the Bernardian Association, clubs, and teams on bookkeeping matters
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in business management, accounting, or similar
Three or more year’s bookkeeping experience
Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills
Displays competence in bookkeeping practices
Ability to meet deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and computerized software
Displays proficiency and ability to integrate software
Establishes rapport, works independently
Maintains strict confidentiality and professional ethics
