Amherst Nurseries, a wholesale nursery and landscaping business, is hiring both entry-level and experienced employees. The work environment is busy and constantly evolving, both in the nursery and on landscaping job sites. If you enjoy a fast pace every day, this is a good opportunity for you!

Experience is not required, but a positive attitude and willingness to work as a team with your co-workers is essential. We are willing to train entry-level employees to do the work to meet our standards.

Each day is different in this job - between landscape projects (mowing, mulching, planting, etc) and nursery related work (planting, pruning, staking, harvesting, etc). Some of the expectations of the job are:

1. Work Safely and Efficiently every day

2. Work in all weather conditions

3. Ability to be in good physical condition and lift over 60 lbs repeatedly throughout the day

4. Communicate effectively and professionally with customers and co-workers, including timely completion of paperwork

5. Ability to learn how to operate our machinery

6. Ability to obtain a DOT Medical card and OSHA 10 certificate within 10 days of hire

7. Ability to pass a background and drug screening test

8. Availability to work Saturdays as needed. Sunday work may be required on rare occasions.

9. Availability in the winter for snow removal work overnight and daytime, all days of the week as needed

10. Willingness to be flexible when poor weather affects the work schedule

We are looking for people who want to be the best in the industry and have a professional attitude, work well with customers/co-workers and know how to attend to the details in an efficient manner. You must have a valid drivers license with a good driving history, and be available for winter snow removal work. This is a substance and smoke free workplace.

We offer steady hours and overtime, several paid holidays, personal/sick days, health insurance, and a performance bonus at the end of the season.

We are hiring for:

1. Entry Level - experience in landscaping or nursery work is not required. We will provide training as necessary.

2. Landscape/Nursery Supervisor - must have at least 3 years experience in landscaping, nursery, or tree work. Employment would be from March to December, with the opportunity to work through the winter. Candidates must be competent in many of the following areas:

Management of employee teams

Knowledge of and ability to identify landscape plants

Competence with landscape installation best-practices

Competence with nursery best management practices

Competence with pest management in a nursery setting

Operation of farm tractors and implements

Operation of front end loader with bucket and forks

Operation of pickup truck and trailer combinations

Operation of commercial lawn mowing equipment

Operation of pickup truck with snow plow

Maintenance of farm and landscape equipment

Management of work crew and ability to interact well with other people

Computer skills - Excel and Word

Applicants should be highly safety conscious and able to handle strenuous work in all weather conditions. Amherst Nurseries is a small business, and all employees must be willing to help in all areas of the business as needed in order to complete the task at hand.
