Are you someone who lives for checklists, tidying up, and making life easier for others? I’m a 45-year-old disabled veteran with a T-2 spinal cord injury in a motorized wheelchair looking for a new Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to help me live independently. The ideal candidate is energetic, practical, organized, and enjoys helping someone live better every day.
About Me
I’m currently finishing rehab at the Brockton VA for shoulder surgery and heading back to New Bedford next Friday (7/11). I use both a motorized and a manual wheelchair, depending on the situation. I have an approved allocation of 43 hours/week for care through Tempus Unlimited.
What You’ll Help With:
Deep and regular household cleaning — not just surface wiping
Cooking & meal prep (bonus if you love food and are resourceful at the grocery store)
Dressing and undressing, and assistance with bathing
Stretching & range-of-motion therapy
Frugal shopping and meal planning
Organizing my space, tasks and schedule (I struggle with this myself!)
Help loading/unloading my manual wheelchair in and out of my car
Assist with taking care of my cat when I am unable
Using shared calendars and digital tools to help stay on track
Who You Are:
Cat friendly. I have a 2 year old tabby named George
Must enjoy a lively environment - I sing a lot, love all kinds of music and there’s usually something playing while we work
Must enjoy the outdoors and be ready to take long walks
Physically capable and able to assist with daily tasks, including lifting a wheelchair in/out of a vehicle
Detail-oriented with a strong memory and great organizational skills. You will be my second brain!
A self-starter who takes initiative, especially when I’m distracted
Comfortable with technology (email, calendar invites, online shopping, basic apps)
Friendly, upbeat and flexible in your thinking
Appreciates a bit of dark humor and doesn’t take offense easily - I enjoy joking around and need someone who can roll with that
Hours:
Typical schedule is 7:00 or 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday (some flexibility possible). Weekends are available too, though the schedule on the weekends is undefined at the moment.
Tech Comfort Is a Must:
I work in IT and communicate primarily through shared digital calendars and task lists. If that’s unfamiliar territory or feels overwhelming, this won’t be the right match.
If you’re the kind of person who wipes the baseboards while waiting for water to boil, remembers what we ran out of last Tuesday and thinks ahead about ways to make daily life easier and more organized - I want to hear from you!
To Apply:
Send a short note with your background, availability and why you’d be a great fit. Tell me about your experience with taking care of others, cooking, organizing, cleaning and any tech comfort you have. Please also attach your phone number as I will be responding via text before calling. Thanks for reading!
