Demonstrates proficiency in determining specimen requirements blood collections for all age groups, order entry, order query, specimen accessioning, and specimen distributions.
Utilizes two forms of patient identification.
Accurately performs laboratory analyses on patient specimens.
Verifies completed work only after careful review of order priority, completeness, absurd results, critical values and special requests.
Ensures that results pass quality control criteria before verifying results.
Brings forward quality concerns and issues in a timely manner following the proper chain of command.
Skillfully performs required instrumentation maintenance so that analyzers will perform optimally over a longer period of time.
Recognizes STAT testing priorities.
Reviews results for critical values, delta variances, unusual or absurd results, and result completeness prior to certification and release of information.
Maximally utilizes the features of the LIS system to enable productive and efficient use of time.
A medical technologist-2 shall earn this designation through learning and practicing additional skills over and above the medical technologist job description. Examples include the laboratory information system maintenance and development, point-of-care coordination, supervision of a high-volume complex lab section, or outreach activities.
In order to complete one of the above tasks, technologists must demonstrate superior time management skills and productivity.
Scheduled Hours: 37.5 hrs/wkWork Shift: Days, every third weekend rotation and holidays.Education Required: A bachelor’s degree is required in medical laboratory science or clinical laboratory science, or related biological science.Licenses, Registrations, Certifications Required: Registered as a medical technologist (ASCP) or equivalent certification upon hire. New graduates must become certified within 12 months from date of hire.Required Experience: Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.Benefits working at Anna Jaques Hospital:
