Following established departmental policies and procedures, performs U.S. procedures with a minimum of supervision. Maintain accurate and complete records relative to the procedure performed Demonstrate competency in the use of all applicable aspects of the Meditch Computer System.

Following established departmental guidelines for maintaining patient confidentiality, explain the procedure to the patient prior to the scan, making sure that the appropriate exam is ordered and obtaining all pertinent clinical history. Perform exams in a manner consistent with the patients' physical, psychological and social needs. Ensure patient safety and provide as much comfort as is possible to the patient. Provide appropriate assessment and management of the patient's pain.

The Ultrasound technologist is responsible for all technical aspects of the exam. They must be able to independently operate ultrasound equipment to produce and process and process images. Contributes to patient satisfaction and exam quality adhering to established Milton hospital policies and procedures and upholding procedures and standards for discipline.

Technologists must be familiar with emergency equipment and supplies within the department and respond to emergencies as they occur. Document and report all occurrences within the Ultrasound Department to the proper authorities within the hospital.

Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly fashion and adhere to all infection control standards, ensuring sanitary conditions. Understand and practice the proper use of all equipment, according to manufacturer's guidelines.

Notifies the Director of Radiology of any situations from within or outside of the Radiology Department that result in difficulty carrying out U.S. procedures.

Organize the work schedule on a daily basis. Assist in maintaining inventory for the Ultrasound department and orders supplies as needed.

Communicate with the reception staff to minimize patient waiting and ensure the highest level of patient satisfaction. Act as a resource for referring physicians and radiologist.

Considers specific cultural beliefs and practices when caring for patients, utilizing interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency.

Collaborates, cooperates and communicates with other health care providers to ensure quality and continuity of care. Provides care appropriate to the age groups of patients regularly served; seeks assistance for resources of other age groups that need care.

Reports equipment malfunctions to the Director of Radiology. Initiate and document service calls for Ultrasound equipment. Supervise and document quality control and assurance within the department according to established policy and protocol. Organize and document preventative maintenance schedules.

In accordance with established departmental guidelines, ensure the Department remains in compliance with the Joint Commission of American Healthcare Organization (JCAHO) guidelines. Assists the Sr. Ultrasound Technologist in preparing for all required inspections and certifications.

Transport patients as needed. Provide on-call coverage and/or work various shifts as assigned to meet department needs.

Employee maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served.

May be required to perform similar or related duties as maybe necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor.

Perform all duties in accordance with the safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited program in Sonography, registered or registry eligible in the fields of Abdomen, Physics or Cardiac sonography.

Maintains current CEU credits.

Provides copies of the above-mentioned documents to be kept on file in the Radiology Department.
