Pathology Assistant (PA)

Statement of Purpose: Works in conjunction with the pathologist in performing gross evaluation of tissue specimens submitted to the Pathology Department including gross description, tissue sampling and preparation of tissue sections for slide production. Responsible for assisting the pathologist with autopsy cases. Assists with frozen sections and responsible for maintaining the frozen section room in a clean and organized fashion. Responsible for maintaining the grossing room in a clean and organized fashion. Works in conjunction with the Laboratory Administrative Director in maintaining a good working partnership between the Pathologists, Pathology Assistant, Histology Manager and the Histology Department. Maintains equipment and supplies necessary for job functions. Communicates professionally with physicians and other departments within the hospital. Ensures that services are of the best quality, are cost contained, and are carried out in an expeditious manner. Responsible for recognizing problems that require referral to the Pathologist and/or Administrative Lab Director Qualifications: Education: Degreed Pathology Assistant (PA) required. Certification / License: HT ASCP desired Experience: Minimum of five years experience working in a Histology laboratory and or working as a PA required.
