Summer Program Director, Two-week Children’s Summer Program

The Summer’s Not Over @ the U.U. (SNO@UU) Director is responsible for supervising all program activities, staff and participants (“Adventurers”) during the last two weeks of August, when the program operates. SNO@UU consists of 30-40 Adventurers and three counselors, as well as 50+ volunteer activity leaders and mentors, who will be directed and supervised by Assistant Directors. The Director is responsible for handling all administrative tasks during the two-week period, as well as supporting the Assistant Directors, who will carry out registration, initial family communication and finances in the spring. During the first two weeks in August, the Director will continue communication with families, lead counselor training and volunteer orientation, and plan Before- and After-care activities. Salary: $3,200

Prerequisites:

Three+ years of Summer program/Camp experience, preferably in a supervisory role

Bachelor degree or comparable professional certification

Familiarity with Unitarian Universalist principles and values and/or willingness to learn and follow

Excellent organizational, computer and communication skills

Enthusiastic leadership and creativity

Willingness to collaborate closely with Assistant Directors

Staff Supervision and Development:

Trains, manages, and directs staff

Observes and evaluates staff performance

Creates strategies to inspire and reinforce staff and volunteers

Ensures staff and volunteer CORIs are current and complete

Adventurer & Family Engagement:

Models a safe and supportive community environment based on UU Values

Fosters relationships with Adventurers and their families

Responds to incidents and troubleshoots as needed

Manages all Adventurer- and parent-related issues

Greets families and conducts Adventurer sign-in and sign-out

Leads Opening Circle with greeting, announcements and games/activities

Assigns Assistant Directors daily tasks as needed

Coordinates/covers for counselor breaks

Attends/supervises Before- and After-care

Communicates with parents regarding any incidents

Campus Appearance:

Works with staff and volunteers to ensure Adventurers, staff, volunteers and families have a safe, clean, inviting campus environment

Coordinates daily clean-up with staff and counselors

Physical Requirements:

Able to lift full coolers and other objects weighing up to 40 lbs

Able to climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, reach with hands, sit and stand for extended periods of time, walk, hear and have visual acuity.

Note: the Director will regularly be required to stand, talk, hear and walk over uneven and unpaved grounds
