This application is for a 6-month student role from July - December 2025. Resume review begins in February 2025.We are seeking a highly motivated Co-op willing to learn and help drive the development of therapeutics for neuromuscular disorders, including SMA and ALS. The trainee will be imbedded into the Neuromuscular Research group, a team with significant expertise in human biology, in vitro and in vivo modeling, biological data interpretation, and generating hypothesis for new drug targets.To support Biogen’s mission in pioneering innovative science to deliver new medicines, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to make highly visible contributions to drug discovery programs through hands-on experience in a laboratory setting and presenting findings in group meetings and research seminars.Position DescriptionThe candidate will primarily focus on examining novel drug strategies for neuromuscular disorders using in vitro models. This work may include:Work with team to plan, design and execute experiments that directly contribute to novel drug discoverySet up and perform cell-based assays to establish proof-of-concept of prospective targets and their appropriateness for use in novel therapeutic programs. Where appropriate, contribute to in vivo studies for additional validation.Perform downstream molecular biology techniques including, but not limited to, RNA/protein isolation, qPCR, ddPCR, western blots, MSD assays, etc.Present findings and share learnings with team members and research community at BiogenAppropriately record experimental procedures and findings using ELN documentation
