The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA is seeking candidates for a full-time Security Campus Patrol Officer position. This dynamic position provides support for the museum’s interior security operations as well as a visible exterior presence for the museum’s properties, buildings and grounds after-hours and late at night. Interior duties will include security post coverage during any after-hours events or programs. Exterior duties will include inspecting & patrolling PEM’s Salem properties, responding to alarm calls, investigating incidents upon dispatch, and acting independently to resolve adverse conditions and situations. This position works closely with PEM’s Security Operations Center, Security Campus Supervisors, on-call staff, and local public emergency response personnel.
The work includes some indoors, as well as, much outdoor work in all types of weather. Job requirements are: able to maintain being physically active on a regular basis in order to react and respond to any emergency situation without serious physical limitations; possess a good driving record; able to work longer than the standard work day and work hours, the ability to walk, sit or stand for long periods of time, climb up and down stairs, lift 40 pounds, and be able to provide first aid care and CPR to someone in an emergency, if needed.
Any selected candidate will be provided access to a PEM owned vehicle, and must possess an active and valid MA Driver’s License and be able to retain that active license for the duration of their employment. In order to drive a PEM issued vehicle, good vision and good hearing with or without corrective/assisted lenses/devices is needed in order to comply with our PEM Authorized Driver and Vehicle Use policy. Possessing conversational language proficiency other than English is strongly desired along with the requisite experience and skills. Any candidate should have a minimum of two years related security experience; experience with two-way radio communications and protocols; possess excellent communication and public interaction skills; strong decision-making experience and sound judgement; the ability to diffuse a situation through learned strategies and techniques and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Obtaining and/or maintaining First Aid and CPR Certifications and basic computer skills are required. The hourly range for this role is $19.53 to $20.39 commensurate with experience.
