The Boston Center for Independent Living is a frontline civil rights organization led by people with disabilities that advocates to eliminate discrimination, isolation, and segregation by providing advocacy, information and referral, peer support, skills training, PCA services, and transitional services in order to enhance the independence of people with disabilities.

Position Overview: A full-time, benefited position, the PCA Administrative Specialist’s primary duties include, though not exclusively, providing data entry and phone support for the PCA program department, providing organizational support to BCIL’s administrative department, including back-up to the front-desk reception and phone coverage at the Temple Place and Dorchester offices; and supporting staff on database matters, including staff training and troubleshooting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide administrative support to the PCA program through direct consumer correspondence, data entry, filing, preparation of assessment packets for nurses, and database projects.

Work with the PCA program to increase efficiency in facilitating MassHealth submissions, including taking consumer phone calls and faxing needed documents to medical providers.

Provide phone switchboard support as needed at BCIL’s offices.

Provide staff training, troubleshooting, and other support on BCIL database systems, including the transition from WILD to MiCIL.

Assist the management team with the preparation of correspondence, reports, and database entries.

Assist with staff accommodation support as directed by the supervisor.

Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

An understanding of disability rights and independent living philosophy. Lived experience with a disability is a plus.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and other comparable mandates.

Strong computer skills and a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook and Office 365.

Strong organizational skills.

Ability to work on your own as well as part of a team.

Project oriented with the ability to manage time effectively.

Self-starter with the ability to handle multiple tasks.

Duties will be assigned by the supervisor with the goal of establishing a regular schedule of activities, though inherent in this position will be the ability to perform assigned tasks as needed and collaborate with all staff, including senior managers.

Equipment Operated:

Computers, telephone, copier, scanner, Microsoft Office, printer, postage machine, and other office equipment/programs.

Working Environment:

The office area is a shared workspace divided by cubicles. Verbal communication can be heard from other staff in adjoining cubicles. The Administrative Specialist position requires 5 days per week in the office with occasional remote work as approved.

Hours: 40 Hours – Full Time / Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Salary: $44,000 annually
