Time commitment:

5-15 hours per month

Flexible, mainly remote, but does require 2 in-person meetings per month in Charlestown.

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Responsibilities:

The person in this position is responsible for maintaining high standards for the accuracy and integrity of the organization's financial and record keeping systems, and managing all aspects of regularly recurring accounting needs, including:

Expenditures: Verify, process and record vendor, employee & board reimbursements for payment, track receipts for bank & credit card statements. Obtain appropriate W-9 Forms, process & submit annual 1099 forms.

Receipts: Track incoming receipts and donations.

Bank Reconciliations: Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, review balances as needed.

Payroll: Track and PTO schedules. (Payroll itself is processed using an outside vendor.)

Reporting: Prepare financial reports for management review. Organize and maintain financial data to ensure compliance with accounting and donor regulations and reporting requirements.

Year-end activities: Review general ledger for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness. Compile and review all necessary financial data for 990 tax return filing.

Budgeting: Support the CRA Board in developing & reconciling budgets for CRA’s activities.

Requirements:

5+ years of relevant experience. Non-profit accounting experience preferred.

Solid grasp of general accounting principles.

Advanced level of knowledge in QuickBooks Online

Excellent Excel skills & proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Fluency in English. Spanish alongside highly desirable

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, patience & persistence in working with people not used to dealing with online technology or accounting procedures and protocols.

Able to travel to CRA’s offices (Charlestown, MA) on a regular schedule.

Not a current Bunker Hill Public Housing resident, nor related by blood or marriage to any current tenant.

Offer and acceptance are subject to a background check.

About the CRA:

A Massachusetts non-profit corporation, Charlestown Resident Alliance (CRA), is the Boston Housing Authority (BHA) approved tenant organization for the Bunker Hill public housing project in Charlestown, MA. CRA was formed by a volunteer tenant group to represent all residents of the development. Bunker Hill is in the midst of a comprehensive redevelopment into 2,699 units of mixed-income housing, with current residents having a right to return to new and better apartments.

CRA currently receives Tenant Participation Funds (TPF) from the BHA, which is used for its day-to-day activities. In addition, the CRA receives funding from the developers, a portion of which is available for the CRA’s capacity and growth.

CRA maintains offices at 76 Monument Street, Charlestown, MA 02129, within the Bunker Hill public housing project.
