The Unitarian Universalist Church of Medford (UUCM), a historic congregation that strives to be a spiritual home for people of free faith, seeks to hire a part-time Coordinator of Worship and Community Life to collaborate with us as we shape our Sunday morning services, which are spiritually inclusive, varied, and justice oriented.

Required Duties:

-Collaborate with the Worship Committee to plan and coordinate Sunday Services during the church year, September to early June. Responsibilities include:

-Work with the Worship Committee to select and invite guest ministers/speakers and recruit lay members to lead Sunday services.

-Communicate in advance with worship leaders regarding service details - including service elements, sermon title, hymns, and readings.

-Ensure a volunteer Worship Associate is scheduled, prepared and confirmed to assist each guest minister/speaker.

-Facilitate guest ministers and lay leaders being in contact with the Director of Children’s Programs regarding the Time for All Ages and with the Music Director regarding hymns and special music.

-Ensure all Zoom tasks are covered – host, audio, camera – with confirmed volunteers prepared to provide Sunday services to remote participants.

-Produce the Order of Service for each Sunday Service.

-Be present on Sunday mornings from about 10 am to 1 pm, at least 35 weeks during the church year.

-Help prepare sanctuary for the worship service.

-Greet and orient worship service leaders, especially guest ministers and speakers, to the Sunday service format and logistics.

-Interact with members of the congregation, especially during social hour, to become aware of congregant needs and to encourage each person’s contribution to our shared ministry, with a special focus on visitors and recent first-timers.

-Take primary responsibility for leadership of two Sunday services per year, which may include presenting a sermon and/or other

worship elements.

-Attend monthly meetings of the church Board and Worship Committee and meet regularly with the Director of Children’s Program and the Music Director.

Other activities that may be included, if desired:

-Support congregational activities that occur on days other than Sundays, such as social justice activities, covenant groups, adult programming, or community events.

-Support members of the congregation in crafting weddings, funerals, and other lifecycle rituals.

Required Qualifications:

-Excellent interpersonal and coordination skills.

-A friendly, curious, and collaborative approach to Shared Ministry.

-Familiarity with or enthusiasm to learn the rhythms of Unitarian Universalist congregational life.

-Some experience with worship or ritual leadership.

-Support of the Unitarian Universalist values of interdependence, pluralism, justice,transformation, generosity, equity, and love, as well as the classic UU statement of principles.

Optional Qualifications – not required:

-Leadership experience with Unitarian Universalist congregations.

-Training or study of Unitarian Universalist worship, theology, history, and polity.

-Familiarity with sound systems and/or hybrid zoom events.

Proposed Distribution of Hours - 12 hours per week, Mid-August to Mid-June:

-Coordination of Sunday worship services: 5 hours/week

-Participation in Sunday Morning services and interacting with the community: 3 hours/week

-Board Meetings, Worship Committee, and Staff Meetings: 2 hours/week

-Other activities: 2 hours/week

Proposed Compensation: A salaried position based on $30/hour for 12 hours per week for 10 months (43 weeks), totaling $15,480 – with room for negotiation related to duties, hours, and experience.
