Diesel Mechanic - Direct Hire

The Mechanic is responsible for working alongside the Head Mechanic. He/She will help manage a fleet of over 60 + vehicles ensuring each vehicle is road safe, trouble shooting and fixing any issues and providing general maintenance The fleet includes class 8 diesel trucks and tractor trailers as well as support vehicles including cars, vans, SUVs, plow vehicles, yard equipment and trailers This person will train and work closely with a veteran Head Mechanic and will serve as his backup.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience and skill level.

Normal Work Hours: 4 day work week. Tuesday through Thursday 2:00PM until 12:30PM and Friday 11:00AM to 9:30PM. Must be available for road calls and breakdowns during off scheduled hours. Does not include extra hours for Holiday weeks or early arrivals for operations meetings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fueling of trucks on a daily or weekly schedule

Checking of all fluids, DEF, lights, tires and lubrication

Diagnose and repair/rebuild many aspects of a truck and automotive systems including engines, drivetrains, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical and mechanical systems.

Be able to reassemble with an attention to detail and safety

Computer based diagnostics on modern automotive and truck interfaces

Perform preventive maintenance

Knowledge of hydraulic and air break systems and adjustments

Perform pre-inspections for Mass State and DOT inspections

Safely work with wide variety of power and hand tools such as trade-type lifts, hoists, jacks and stabilizing devices

Experience with oxy-acetylene torches, welders, metal cutting and fabrication tools

Experience with electric/hydraulic liftgates, HVAC systems, auxiliary power units

Be able to properly document and repair orders as work is completed

PLANNING/COMMUNICATION

Ability to works in a team setting while still being comfortable working independently

Keeps a clean and organized work space

High attention to safety and company policies as well as OSHA and DOT regulations

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

At least three years’ experience working in an automotive/truck repair facility

Must have your own complete set of hand and air tools

Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record

Strong communication skills and be able to read and write in English

Have or willing to obtain Class B Commercial Driver’s License within 90 days post hire

Ability to work in all types of weather

Lift at least 50lbs

Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift, push, climb, bend and reach.

Must climb ladders and stairs
