NLG-Massachusetts Chapter is a progressive bar association of lawyers, legal workers, and law students dedicated to working for progressive political, social, racial, gender and economic justice. Our NLG Chapter serves to "function as an effective political and social force in the service of people, to the end that human rights shall be regarded as more sacred than property interests.”
The Litigation Committee, established in 2011, files impact litigation to address systemic issues, such as abuse of police power, the treatment of prisoners, illegal home foreclosures, governmental surveillance, the withholding of public records, and more. The choice of issues to address are considered on a case-by-case basis by the Committee and depend upon the volunteer resources available.
Salary: up to $35,000/year for half-time and up to $70,000/year for full-time work, both depending on experience

This is a union position (NOLSW/UAW 2320).
Responsible for the following:
Primarily responsible for all work and cases of the Litigation Committee.
Identify, file and litigate public interest litigation consistent with NLG principles.
Conduct legal research, analysis and writing.
Review current law, as well as pending legislative reforms.
Draft complaints, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
Participate in all aspects of litigation, including initial fact gathering, witness interviews, discovery and court appearances.
Explore opportunities for legal and/or policy reform, both through litigation and legal advocacy.
Coordinate litigation with other progressive groups.
Possess the following:
J.D. degree & litigation experience.
Strongcommitmenttoprogressiveprinciples,publicinterest,andcivilliberties.
Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
Ability to analyze complex legal issues and think strategically and creatively about the use of litigation and other forms of legal advocacy to achieve progressive policy reforms.
Take initiative to identify areas in need to legal change.
