South End Buttery is looking for an experienced Baker to assist with the preparation of a variety of desserts and pastries, including muffins, scones, croissants and other laminated doughs, cakes, tarts, cookies, cupcakes, and other pastries for our busy café and restaurant. The ideal candidate should be a team player well versed in pastry trends and able to show their creative side with changing seasonal items. The candidate must also be well organized to stay on top of our growing catering demands. They must adhere to health and safety standards to provide clients with exceptional products and services.

Responsibilities

- Prepare a wide variety of baked goods such as cakes, cookies, pies, breads, etc. following traditional and modern recipes

- Strong knowledge of laminated doughs to produce in-house croissants and danishes

- Decorate pastries using a variety of icings, toppings, etc. to ensure that presentation will be beautiful and professional

- Monitor stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar, etc., and help with making appropriate orders

- Check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking

- Guide and motivate fellow bakers to work more efficiently and collaboratively

- Decorated cake and cookie experience will be a plus, but not required

Skills

- Proven experience as a pastry cook, baker, or relevant role

- Great attention to detail and creativity

- Decorating skills to include specialty order cakes, cookies, etc.

- Organization and leadership skills

- Ability to follow written recipes correctly

- In-depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation and baking techniques, and nutrition

- Working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten-free, vegan, sugarless, etc.)

- Knowledge of and experience with viennoiserie and laminated dough

- Certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking, or relevant field preferred but not required
